<br />R E S O L U T I O N N 0 756
<br />RESOLUTION ORDERING IMPROVEMENTS AND BALLING FOR BIDS VIRGINIA AVENUE
<br />WHEREAS said Council has acquired jurisdiction to order said work and improvements;
<br />NOIT, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Redwood City that the public
<br />convenience and necessity require, and said Council hereby orders, all the.work and improvements,
<br />hereinafter described, to be performed.
<br />Said work and improvements are described as follows:
<br />() The improvement of Virginia Avenue from its intersection with Roosevelt Avenue to its inter-
<br />section with Oak Avenue by constructing and installing therein concrete curb and instdaling therein
<br />concrete curb and gutter, 5" standard concrete driveway approaches to serve those residences where
<br />driveways now exist, 4" concrete sidewalks 5' wide, 2t"asphaltic concrete paving on 6" crusher -run
<br />rock base, 31' wide.
<br />(b) The construction and installation of an 18" reinforced concrete pipe siphon with a catch
<br />basin at either end thereof, across Virginia Avenue at its intersection with Roosevelt Avenue.
<br />(c) The removal of an existing catch.basin at the southwest corner of the intersection of Virginia
<br />Avenue with Oak Avenue and the installation of a new catch basin at the aforementioned intersection, and
<br />the construction and installation of an 18" reinforced concrete pipe storm sewer lateral from said catch
<br />basin to the center line of Oak Avenue.
<br />(d.) The construction and installation of all necessary appurtenances to the work to be done under
<br />items (a) through (c) inclusive.
<br />For further particulars as to the work and improvementVherein ordered to be done and for a ~
<br />description of the area proposed to be assessed for said work and improvements, reference is hereby
<br />made to Resolution of Intention No -746 of said Council, passed and adopted on the 18th day of July,1949.
<br />FURTHER RESOLVED, that the work and improvements hereinabove described shall be done under the
<br />direction of the City Engineer of said City of Redwood City, and that materials used therein shall comply
<br />with the specifications heretofore adopted; and that the assessments to be made in said proceedings shall
<br />be made and signed by said Citytngineer.
<br />The Clerk of the City of Redwood City is hereby ordered and directed to post a notice conspicu-
<br />ously for five (5) days on or near the Council Chamber door of the Council of said City of Rpdwo,od City,
<br />inviting sealed proposals or bids for doing the work and making the improvements rdered herein. Said
<br />City Clerk is also ordered and directed to publish a notice inviting said seale proposals or bids for
<br />the period required by law in the Redwood City Tribune, a daily (except Sunday) newspaper of general
<br />circulation, published, printed and circulated in the City of Redwood City, and hereby designated for
<br />that purpose by the Council of said City. Said notice shall refer to the plans, profiles, detailed
<br />drawings and specifications on file in the office of the City Clerk for a detailed description of the
<br />WHEREAS the Council of the City of Redwood City did,on the 18th day of July, 1949, pass and
<br />adopt Resolution of Intention No. 746 (Virginia Avenue) to order the hereinafter described work to
<br />be done and improvements to be made in said City of Redwood City; and
<br />WHEREAS notices of the passage of said Resolution of Intention No. 746, headed "NOTICE OF
<br />IMPROVEMENT", were duly and regularly posted along the line of said contemplated work and improve-
<br />ments and in front of all the property liable to be assessed therefor, and on all of the streets in
<br />the district to be assessed therefor, in the time, form, manner and number as required by law, as
<br />appears from the affidavits of Glenn M. Jain, Superintendent of Streets of the City of Redwood City,
<br />on file in the office of the Clerk of said City: and
<br />WHEREAS it appears; from the affidavit of Ralph S.Dodge,City Cler of-thehity of Redwood City,
<br />that notices of the adoption of the said resolution were mailed to all ersons owning real property
<br />proposed to be assessed for said improvements, in the time, form and manner as required by law,
<br />which affidavit is on file with the Clerk of said City of Redwood City; and
<br />WHEREAS it appears from the affidavit of Lu Verne H.Hamlin that said Resolution of Intention
<br />was duly and regularly published in the Redwood City Tribune, a newspaper published, printed and
<br />circulated in the City of Redwood City; and •
<br />WHEREAS, in and by said Resolution of Intention No. 1 46 and the notices of the passage thereof cT

<br />posted, published and mailed as aforesaid, said Council of the City of Redwood City fixed Monday, the
<br />15th Hay of August, 1949, at the hour of 8:00 P.M. of said day, at the Council Chamber of the Council
<br />of the City of Redwood City, in the City Hall on Middlefield Road in said City, as the day, hour and
<br />place when and where any and alhersons having any objections to the proposed work and improvements
<br />described in said Resolution offflntention No -746,, or to the grades,at which said work and improvements
<br />are to be done and made, or to the district to be assessed for said work and improvements, could appear
<br />before said Council and show cause why said proposed work and improvements should not be carried out
<br />and done in accordance with said Resolution'of Intention No.746,or why said work and improvements should
<br />not be carried out and done at the grades as shown on the plans, profiled and detailed drawings referred
<br />to in said Resolution of Intention No -746 and now on file in the office of the Clerk of the City of
<br />Redwood City; and
<br />WHEREAS the day, hour and place last above mentioned, all objections, oral and written, to
<br />said work and improvements described in said Resolution of Intention No -746, or to the extent of the
<br />district to be assessed therefor, were duly considered by said Council; and
<br />WHEREAS all said objections were overruled and denied by said Council; and
<br />WHEREAS said Council did determine that protests were not made by more than one-half (1/2) of
<br />the owners of the property proposed to be assessed for said work and improvements; and
<br />WHEREAS said Council has acquired jurisdiction to order said work and improvements;
<br />NOIT, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Redwood City that the public
