G ABSENT: Councilmen: MORGAN, Jr.
i a
ATTEST:
RALPH S. DODGE
Clerk of the City of Redwood City.
0
W. M. WERDER
Mayor of the City of Redwood City
I hereby approve the foregoing Resolution
this 17th day of August, 1948.
W. M. WERDER
Mayor of the City of Redwood City
CITY ENGINEER JAIN RE0014MENDED THAT THE FOLLOWING ESTIMATES BE APPROVED FOR PAYMENT:
L. C. Smith, 07,345.94; Fred J. Early, $61,641.43. Councilman Swift moved approval
of payments, seconded by Councilman Holmquist, and carried.
CITY ATTORNEY CURRIE SUGGESTED THAT COUNCIL ADJOURN TO August 30th so that Ordinance could
be introduced fixing tax rate and be adopted by September 7th.
COUNCILMAN GRANGER BROUGHT UP THE QUESTION OF (1) Garages and attached garages not being
fireproof and suggested that the Building Inspector bring in some suggestions on
making them fireproof; -(2) suggested that the Council take some action or refer to the
Planning Commission the subject of setback lines from the Sequoia Hotel to Jefferson
on Broadway so that all buildings in the future will conform. At the present some of
the buildings are offset about five or six feet. On motion of Councilman Granger,
seconded by Councilman Spillers, this was to be referred to the Planning Commission,
and carried. (3) Automobiles were parked all hours of day and night around Main and
Broadway and over the one-hour parking limit on Broadway between Walnut and Main,
where parking meters have not been installed. City Collector Perrin stated that Mr.
Boles, representative of the Parking Meter Company was to return in regards to the
parking meters. Councilman Granger moved that the proper authorities post this area
on Broadway where there are no parking meters for a limited parking time, seconded
by Councilman Swift, and carried. (4) Several years ago the City made a contract
with the Sequoia Union High School to maintain a small area adjacent to the campus,
known as "Nicotine Field", for the use of the public and suggested that proper
authorities at the High School be contacted and the public notified that this area
is for their use.
COUNCILMAN BRITSCHGGI ASKED WHEN THE PARKING METERS WOULD BE INSTALLED IN THE PERRY
PARKING LOT. When the deed would be received 54 meters would be put.in and some on
Broadway according to City Manager Rolison, but the paving would have to be done
first. City Engineer Jain suggested that good paving of 21' thickness be put in, a
new striping machine had been received which would be used. Councilman Britschgi
stated the Parking Committee had made an agreement with the Sequoia Laundry granting
them permission to pave sidewalk along his building. Councilman Britschgi inquired
about street patching crew. It was thought they were doing an excellent job. 'City
Engineer Jain stated a refund had been received on some of the materials used which
had proven unsatisfactory.
REQUEST OF Councilman Spillers and Britschgi to leave the State was granted on motion of
Councilman Swift, seconded by Councilman Holmquist, and carried.
3
a
3
z
1
1
