3 <br />CLAIMS Nos. 4153 to 4255 inclusive in the amount of 056,579.53, having been checked in <br />detail were submitted for payment. Councilman Swift moved that claims be paid, see- <br />onded by Councilman Spillers, and carried. <br />COUNCILMAN SWIFT moved that the meeting adjourn to Monday, August 30th, seconded by Coun- <br />cilman Spillers, and carried. <br />RALPH S. DODGE <br />Clerk of the City of Redwood City <br />MINUTES OF ADJOURNED MEETING <br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />August 30th, 1948s 7:30 P.M. <br />ON ROLL CALL the following were present: Councilmen Floyd D. Granger, H. E. Holmquist, <br />Albert H. Morgan, Jr., A. V. Swift, Mayor W. M. Werder and City Clerk Ralph S. Dodge. <br />Also present were: City Manager E. A. Rolison, City Engineer Glenn M. Jain, Adminis- <br />trative Assistant Richard D. Miller, Police Chief C. L. Collins, and Assistant <br />Engineer H. L. Winter. Councilmen Cabl Britschgi and Robert Spillers noted absent. <br />COMMUNICATION FROM OTIS M. CARRINGTON, 1500 Whipple Avenue, requesting the city to remove <br />a dead Oak tree near the corner of Whipple Avenue and Woodstock Way. City Manager <br />Rolison explained that this tree was approximately 1/3 across the property owner's <br />line and 2/3 in the sidewalk area. He also advised the Council that the tree was <br />undoubtedly dangerous and probably should be removed. However, he hesitated to <br />establish a precedent whereby others might request like removal of trees. After <br />further discussion Councilman Granger moved, seconded by Councilman Holmquist that <br />e <br />City Manager Rolison contact Mr. Carrington in an effort to work a compromise fin- <br />ancial deal covering removal of tree. Motion carried. <br />CITY MANAGER ROLISON REQUESTED AUTHORITY TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS FOR Ali AUTOMOBILE FOR <br />THE RECREATION DEPARTMENT advising that the 1945-49 Budget provides for the sum <br />of $1100, plus turn -in value of $500. However, City Manager Rolison explained that <br />this amount would not cover the new equipment inasmuch as there had been a recent <br />raise in price announced by the automobile manufacturers. On motion of Councilman <br />Holmquist, seconded by Councilman Granger, City Manager Rolison was authorized to <br />advertise for bids with the understanding that any additional funds necessary would <br />be transferred after the bids had been received and considered. Motion carried. <br />CITY MANAGER ROLISON RECOMMENDED REAPPOINTMENT OF MR. KENDALL B. TOWNE-TO SUCCEED HIM- <br />SELF AS A MEMBER OF THE PORT'COIJMISSION FOR A TERM OF 5 years expiring in July 1953• <br />Mr. Rolison's appointment of Mr. Towne was approved on motion of Councilman <br />Holmquist, seconded by Councilman Granger. Motion carried. <br />CITY CLERK RALPH DODGE READ COMMUNICATION FROM DIVISION OF HIGHWAYS ADVISING THAT COST TO <br />INSTALL A CENTER ISLAND AND STORAGE LANES ON BAYSHORE AT CHESTNUT STREET would be <br />approximately 075,000, the City expected assume'50% of the cost. On motion of Coun- <br />oilman Holmquist, seconded by Councilman Swift, the communication was ordered filed. <br />COIyMUNICATION FROM CITY ENGINEER GLENN M. JAIN. Mr. Jain advised that the engineering• <br />department had made complete field surveys in South Kensington Square and had done <br />considerable office work in preparing an assessment map and estimates of costs of ' <br />proposed improvements consisting of paving, curbs, gutters, sidewalk, sanitary sewers, <br />storm sewers, culverts and electrolier system. The entire project he estimated would <br />amount to approximately $250,500.00, exclusive of a water system. Mr. Jain explained <br />
