i L MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING 29 REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL October 4th, 1945, 5:00 P.M. ON ROLL CALL the following were present: Councilmen C. A. Britschgi, Floyd D. Granger, H. E. Holmquist, R. V. Spillers, A. V. Swift, Mayor W. M. Werder and City Clerk R. S. Dodge. Also present were: City Manager E. A. Rolison, City Engineer Glenn M. Jain, City Collector P. E. Perrin, Assessor -Auditor John'J. Brophy, Assistant Engineer H. L. Winter, Building Inspector L. M. Duncan, Administrative Assistant r` Richard D. Miller, Police Chief C. L. Collins, City Attorney C. B. Currie, Fire Chief J. L. Lodi. Councilman Morgan was on his vacation, and noted absent. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes of regular meeting September 24th and adjourned meeting of September 27th were approved as mailed, on motion of Councilman Granger with the ex- ception that the minutes of the last meeting should be corrected showing the vote cast on Salary Ordinance, Councilman Britschgi voting Nay. Motion seconded by Councilman Holmquist, and carried. PORTOLA TREK, SAN MATEO, October 15th. Mr. E. W. Butler, Manager of the Chamber of Commerce had been appointed to attend the Portola Trek in San Mateo as a representa- tive of Redwood City. As he could not attend Councilman Spillers was appointed to attend this affair at 7:30 P.M. ath the Washington Baseball Park. COMMUNICATION FROM JACK POOLE, Chairman, Parks & Recreation Commission. The City Council had approved purchase of pipe and sprinklers for the underground system at Community Park, but due to the impossiblity of obtaining pipe and lack of manpower in the City Park Department, the Commission recommended that the Council let this project out on bid. Councilman Granger moved that City Manager Rolison be authorized to call for bids, seconded by Councilman Swift,,and carried. PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION also asked for report of Real Estate Committee on survey of land acquisitions in the Friendly Acres'and Redwood Village vicinity for future recreational areas, which was to have been made. Councilman Holmquist stated that a report had not been made on this, but work was being done in conjunction with the Taft School District. City Clerk Dodge was to so inform the Parks and Recreation Commission. PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION informed the Council that the Peninsula Celebration Association donated $900 to the Recreation Department towards the purchase of two pool tables for the Community Recreation Building. Councilman Granger moved that communication be filed and reply addressed to the Peninsula Celebration Assocation expressing appreciation for this gift, seconded by Councilman Holmquist, and carried. PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION REMINDED THE Council that several weeks ago the Council had appointed a committee on Ways and i4eans for raising additional funds for the construction of a swimming pool and wished to know if a report had been made by this committee. Councilman Granger reported that no report had been made due to other problems but that it would be discussed at this time. Councilman Spillers reported that Mr. Dolwig had suggested the possibility of matching funds on the part of the State, at the time of the convention in Long Beach. Councilman Granger moved, seconded by Councilman Spillers that the matter be held up pending the possibility 3( of matching funds to be -taken up at the next Legislature and that a communication • F' ;k should be directed to Mr. Dolwig along that line.
