i <br />L <br />MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING 29 <br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />October 4th, 1945, 5:00 P.M. <br />ON ROLL CALL the following were present: Councilmen C. A. Britschgi, Floyd D. Granger, <br />H. E. Holmquist, R. V. Spillers, A. V. Swift, Mayor W. M. Werder and City Clerk <br />R. S. Dodge. Also present were: City Manager E. A. Rolison, City Engineer Glenn <br />M. Jain, City Collector P. E. Perrin, Assessor -Auditor John'J. Brophy, Assistant <br />Engineer H. L. Winter, Building Inspector L. M. Duncan, Administrative Assistant r` <br />Richard D. Miller, Police Chief C. L. Collins, City Attorney C. B. Currie, Fire Chief <br />J. L. Lodi. Councilman Morgan was on his vacation, and noted absent. <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes of regular meeting September 24th and adjourned meeting of <br />September 27th were approved as mailed, on motion of Councilman Granger with the ex- <br />ception that the minutes of the last meeting should be corrected showing the vote cast <br />on Salary Ordinance, Councilman Britschgi voting Nay. Motion seconded by Councilman <br />Holmquist, and carried. <br />PORTOLA TREK, SAN MATEO, October 15th. Mr. E. W. Butler, Manager of the Chamber of <br />Commerce had been appointed to attend the Portola Trek in San Mateo as a representa- <br />tive of Redwood City. As he could not attend Councilman Spillers was appointed to <br />attend this affair at 7:30 P.M. ath the Washington Baseball Park. <br />COMMUNICATION FROM JACK POOLE, Chairman, Parks & Recreation Commission. The City Council <br />had approved purchase of pipe and sprinklers for the underground system at Community <br />Park, but due to the impossiblity of obtaining pipe and lack of manpower in the City <br />Park Department, the Commission recommended that the Council let this project out <br />on bid. Councilman Granger moved that City Manager Rolison be authorized to call <br />for bids, seconded by Councilman Swift,,and carried. <br />PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION also asked for report of Real Estate Committee on survey <br />of land acquisitions in the Friendly Acres'and Redwood Village vicinity for future <br />recreational areas, which was to have been made. Councilman Holmquist stated that <br />a report had not been made on this, but work was being done in conjunction with the <br />Taft School District. City Clerk Dodge was to so inform the Parks and Recreation <br />Commission. <br />PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION informed the Council that the Peninsula Celebration <br />Association donated $900 to the Recreation Department towards the purchase of two <br />pool tables for the Community Recreation Building. Councilman Granger moved that <br />communication be filed and reply addressed to the Peninsula Celebration Assocation <br />expressing appreciation for this gift, seconded by Councilman Holmquist, and carried. <br />PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION REMINDED THE Council that several weeks ago the Council <br />had appointed a committee on Ways and i4eans for raising additional funds for the <br />construction of a swimming pool and wished to know if a report had been made by <br />this committee. Councilman Granger reported that no report had been made due to <br />other problems but that it would be discussed at this time. Councilman Spillers <br />reported that Mr. Dolwig had suggested the possibility of matching funds on the part <br />of the State, at the time of the convention in Long Beach. Councilman Granger moved, <br />seconded by Councilman Spillers that the matter be held up pending the possibility <br />3( of matching funds to be -taken up at the next Legislature and that a communication • <br />F' ;k <br />should be directed to Mr. Dolwig along that line. Motion carried. ". <br />ii PERMISSION WAS REQUESTED BY CITY 14ANAGER ROLISON TO INVITE SEALED BIDS FOR PIPE TO SUPPLY <br />
