MAYOR WERDER ANNOUNCED NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING OF AMENDI4ENT TO REDWOOD CITY ZONING
ORDINANCE No. 600, on the application of Ronald R. Spink to rezone Lots 19 and 20, j
Block 36, Central Park No. 2 would be rezoned from an R-1 District to an R-2
N4
District. This was approved by the Planning Commission, this was not spot zoning
and the line would extend over two lots. Councilman Swift moved that an affidavit
of publication be filed, seconded by Councilman Britschgi, and carried. Councilman
Holmquist introduced the amendment to the ordinance, seconded by Councilman Spillers,
and carried.
VIRGINIA AVENUE STREET IMPROVEMENT PETITIONS submitted by property owners on Virginia
Avenue between Roosevelt Avenue and Oak Avenue. City Engineer wished to know what
stand the Council was going to take on this as several lots in this area belonged
to the City. It was the opinion of the City Engineer that at least 60% of the
property other than City owned should be represented by the petitions. Mr. Miner
appeared who owned two lots and informed the Council how the property had risen in
value, that he had written and contacted most of the owners himself and some of
them had not replied. There was no fire protection, ambulance could not get in, fll
nor a doctor. He had spent considerable money putting redrock on theis street and
the Street Department had put a crown on the street, but more rock would be needed on
it this winter as water drained from the hills onto this street. Mayor Werder asked
that a larger percentage of signers be secured. Councilman Holmquist moved that
the matter be referred back to the petitioners in an effort to secure more signa-
tures, seconded by Councilman Spillers. Councilman Granger thought improvements
would be impossible this winter. Motion carried.
PLANNING COMMISSION RECOM14ENDED THAT PAGE PLACE BE CHANGED TO SIXTH AVENUE, to avoid con-
fusion as Page Place is a continuation of the present Sixth Avenue. It was also
recommended that if the Council accepted the recommendation that the change be made
w
36 the prese'nttime supported the City's street lighting equipment including time
clock and automatic switching facilities, the Electrical Department had been reques-
ted to submit an estimate of the cost of the rearrangement of these facilities, which
would be necessary prior to the removal of these poles.
it
PROPOSED PURCHASE OF BILLING MACHINE FOR THE WATER DEPARTMENT. Councilman Granger sug-
i
gested that some afternoon he would like to go into the Water. Department and'have
Mr. Brophy explain needs for new machines. Councilman Spillers stated he had spent
about two hours in the department•and was convinced that the machine was too old
I,
to give continued service and that it would be more economical to purchase the
machine than to hire extra help. Mr. Brophy explained that this purchase would
come out of the water funds and was provided for in the new expenditures for the
u
coming year. Mayor Wender was satisfied with Mr. Brophy's statement that the
y„
machine was necessary. Councilman Granger said he desired sufficient time to con-
sider .the expenditure of the amount of $3000 which was the price of the machine.
Mr. Brophy explained that the machine could not be delivered in less than 90 days
but it would not be over six months delay, and further explained that this would
be of help to the tax assessor in preparing tax bills, that 0600 would cover the
attachment which would be made up in about three years in facilitating tax bills.
Councilman Swift expressed faith in Mr. Brophy's request. Councilman Spillers
moved that the City Manager be authorized to call for bids, seconded by Councilman
Swift. Motion carried.
MAYOR WERDER ANNOUNCED NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING OF AMENDI4ENT TO REDWOOD CITY ZONING
ORDINANCE No. 600, on the application of Ronald R.
