before the homes on the street were occupied. Councilman Spillers moved acceptance
of recommendation, seconded by Councilman Holmquist. Mr. Brophy stated homes on this
street were not finished. Motion carried. City Attorney Currie was to prepare ordi-
nance for introduction at the next meeting.
PROGRESS REPORTS COVERING PAYMENTS DUE MR. SORENSEN WERE NOT FINISHED IN TIME TO BE INCLUD-
t.
_ ED WITH THE CLAIMS: refunds on taxes collected for Liquor Licenses were not included"..
in the claims. Councilman Spillers moved that, -both claims be paid, seconded by
Councilman Swift, and carried.
CITY ENGINEER JAIN STATED HE HAD RECEIVED A REQUEST FROM THE SPONSORS IN RECREATION AREA
on Charter Street to borrow City trucks on Saturday to haul dirt from one City place
to another and would furnish their own drivers. Under discussion Councilman Holmquist
stated that several City employees had designated their willingness to offer their
services, and it was thought better to have City employees drive the trucks. Coun-
cilman Spillers moved that the trucks be loaned, subject to volunteers from City
employ to drive or the City would furnish drivers for 1/2 day, seconded by Councilman
Britschgi, and carried.
REPORT ON CHARTER STREET BETWEEN EL CAMINO REAL AND HANCOCK. City Engineer Jain stated
when this area was first subdivided about 1560 this street was shown without any
width; in 1904, 1907 and 1905 other surveys made show the name of "Charter" but no
width. In 1925 there was actually established on the part of the City a. 30 foot
width; survey was made for private owner who now has a trailer court on this property.
There is a 14 foot strip to the City. In 1956 Mrs. Pabst deeded the property to the
present owner. There was an objection to the trailer awnings extending into City
street and drainage from sinks was dumped back into City sewer lines. Mr. Jain had
no comment to make on the health standards of the court. Councilman Granger thought
on the basis of the above report this could be referred to the Health Department of
the County Planning Commission to determine whether this trailer court meets their
requirements and moved that this be taken up with the County Health Department and
investigated by them, seconded by Councilman Spillers, and carried.
CITY ENGINEER JAIN,STATED THAT TWO FULL CREWS HAD BEEN WORKING CONTINUOUSLY since May
lst on street repair program and an average of $3500 per month had been spent for
hot stuff and that $12,000 out of his budget had been spent up to September 1st.
However, he did not wish to discontinue the work on the streets until the patching
had been completed; Woodside and east of Woodside, east of Chestnut and Friendly
Acres had not been done. He also stated they were not permitted to use gas tax funds
for this. Mayor Werder thought the work had shown for itself.
CITY ATTORNEY CURRIE ASKED FOR THE COUNCIL'S OPINION WHETHER OR NOT DIRECTOR OF RECREA-
TION, Red Morton,.could campaign for the State Office of State Assemblyman. Ques-
tion was whether a City employee could participate in these affairs. Mayor Werder
stated if this was legal the Council could not interfere. After discussion it was
decided that the City Attorney would check the Personnel Ordinance and communicate
with Mr. Morton.
RESOLUTION No. 619. A resolution authorizing City Manager Rolison and City Clerk Dodge
to sign all warrants of the City of Redwood City and in the absence of City Manager
warrants may be signed by the Mayor; and in the absence of the City Clerk, warrants
may be signed by the City Auditor. Councilman Spillers offered resolution and moved
adoption, seconded by Councilman Swift, and carried on roll call. Councilman Granger
0
