<br />January 39 1950, 8:00 P. M.
<br />ON ROLL CALL the following were present: Councilmen Floyd D. Granger, H. E. Holmquist,
<br />Albert H. Morgan, Jr., A. V. Swift, Mayor W. M. Werder and City Clerk Ralph S. Dodge.
<br />Also present were: Police Chief Stanley Wood, Administrative Assistant Richard D.
<br />Miller, Building Inspector L. 14. Duncan, City Collector. P. E. Perrin, City Engineer
<br />Glenn M. Jain, Auditor -Assessor John J. Brop4y, City Attorney C. B. Currie, Water
<br />Superintendent H. L. Winter, Fire Chief J. L. Lodi and City Manager E. A. Rolison.
<br />Councilmen Britschgi and Spillers noted absent.
<br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES AS MAILED. Minutes of the regular meeting of December 19th were ap-
<br />proved as mailed on motion of Councilman Morgan, seconded by Councilman Holmquist and
<br />carried.
<br />APPLICATIONS FOR RESTAURANT PERMITS:
<br />Center Fountain Lunch at Phil Demmas Shopping Center, 1225 Spring Street, Henry•F. Nelson.
<br />Kings Drive -In Restaurant, 1703 El Camino Real, H &•E Good Corp., Beer License pending.
<br />Duck In Cafe, 2025 Broadway, Beer -and Wine. Doris M. Butler.
<br />All applications were approved by Health, Building, Fire. and Police Departmentst Per-
<br />mits granted on motion of Councilman Morgan, seconded by Councilman Swift and carried.
<br />Councilman Britschgi entered the meeting 8:05 P. M.
<br />REV. JOHN CAVANAUGH, MT. CARMET CHURCH submitted letter of appreciation for the excellent
<br />work of Fire and Police Departments in controlling fire at the church last Sunday morn-
<br />ing, saving the Parish from a serious conflagration and heavy loss. On motion of Coun-
<br />cilman Morgan, letter was to be filed and a letter of thanks to be sent to Reverent
<br />Cav4naugh, seconded by Councilman Granger and carried.
<br />MR. ARTHUR HAMILTON, 609 DOUGLAS AVENUE, REQUESTED INFORMATION IN LETTER AS TO WHETHER A
<br />RESIDENT OF REDWOOD VILLAGE COULD RUN FOR ELECTION TO THE CITY COUNCIL NEXT April. 10,
<br />1950. The annexation of Redwood Village to Redwood City was by an ordinance introduced,
<br />.February 17, 1947 and adopted March 3, 1947, becoming effective 30 .days thereafter on
<br />April3, 1947. State certificate was issued April 30, 1947. Councilman Morgan moved
<br />that this be referred to the City Attorney for an opinion, seconded by Councilman Swift.
<br />City Attorney Currie stated the date of the State certificate would be the effective
<br />date of annexation. Councilman Morgan withdrew his motion with the consent of the

<br />second. Councilman Brtischgi moved that Mr. Hamilton be notified by letter of City
<br />Attorney Curriets opinion, seconded by Councilman Morgan and carried.
<br />RICHARD J. DOLWIG, CHAIRMAN, INTERIM COMMITTEE ON TIDELAND RECLAMATION AND DEVELOPMENT, RE -
<br />Ira TRAFFIC PROBLEMS, AND TRANSBAY CROSSINGS, Room 420,515 Van Ness, San Francisco 2,
<br />Jreplied to letter from the Council of December 8th together with Resolution '812.urging
<br />allocation of funds for extension of Bayshore Freeway. The letter stated there was a

<br />tentative plan for the Interim Committee on Highways, Street, and Bridges to hold a
<br />i
<br />meeting on this matter on January 19th, 1950. When the date had been definitely set,
<br />the Redwood City Council would receive proper notice to attend. Communication was
<br />ordered filed.

<br />MR. H. H. VIEIITER REQUESTED REFUND ON OVERCHARGE OF $66.59 for water and.sewer serkice at
<br />the.Hotel Sequoia, which he claimed was due to a.leaking City water meter. He stated
<br />the plumbing was checked by a plumber and there were no leaks. A record of service
<br />for past year was enclosed with the letter of protest. Water Superintendent Winter was
<br />called upon for an opinion. He stated the meter had been checked and was all right,
