c-,
September on the Redwood Terrace No.l Job, amounting to 13,043.44. Councilman 41
Granger moved, seconded by Councilman Holmquist, approval providing this claim meets
same requirements of preceding one, namely, approval of C ity Attorney Currie. Motion
carried.
COUNCILMAI4 GRANGER REQUESTED THAT IF POSSIBLE THE PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES hereafter be
mailed direct to -the Councilmen in advance of the regular Council meeting.. Mr. Larry
Wise stated this would be done hereafter.
CITY MANAGER ROLISON REPORTED THAT SINCE THE LAST MEETING OF THE COUNCIL HE HAD CONTACTED
Col. Skeggs, regarding traffic signal and that the State was in the process of draw-
ing plans for signal at Whipple and El Camino Real in accordance with setback lines
as proposed by the Planning Commission. Also plans were under way to modernize and
synchronize the signals from Brewster to Five Points inclusive, the money for which
will be available from Gas Tax Funds in March, 1949. The two signals on the Bayshore,
one -at Main and the other at Chestnut will be started within the next few weeks..
In response to the question from Councilman Granger regarding acquisition of property
to straighten out Whipple Avenue intersection City Manager Rolison advised that the
Highway Commission was designing signals.to fit the ultimate setback lines.
CITY ENGINEER JAIN REPORTED BACK TO THE COUNCIL: that calculations on the two bids sub-
mitted were apparently correct and the bids of Douglas & Woodhouse totaling 011,792.10
was the low bid calling attention to the fact that this figure was within $26 of the
Engineering Department estimate. It was.his recommendation that Douglass & Woodhouse
be awarded the contract. Councilman Granger offered resolution awarding the contract,
rejecting all other bids and ordering the publication of notice of contract award,
seconded by Councilman Holmquist and carried on roll call. Councilman Britschgi,
Morgan and Swift noted absent. .
RESOLUTION No.621
RESOLUTION AWARDING CONTRACT
Johnson Street 1948-4
WHEREAS the Council of the City of Redwood City did in open session on the 11th
day of October, 1948, publicly open, examine and declare all sealed proposals or
bids for doing the following improvements in the City of Redwood City, to -wit:
(a) Grading and construction of pavement, curbs and gutters, sidewalks,
and driveway approaches on Johnson Street, between Roosevelt and
Oak Avenues;
(b) Construction of storm drainage structures at intersections of Johnson
Street with Roosevelt Avenue and Oak Avenue.
RESOLVED, that said Council of the City of Redwood City hereby rejects all
said proposals or bids except that next herein mentioned and hereby awards the
contract for doing said work and making said improvements to the lowest, regular,
responsible bidder, to -wit: Douglass and Woodhouse, a partnership, at the prices
named in their bid.
The City Clerk is hereby directed to publish a notice of this award twice in
the Redwood City Tribune, a daily newspaper (except Sunday), published,.printed
and circulated in said City of Redwood City, and hereby designated for that purpose
by the Council of said City.
I hereby certify the foregoing to be a true copy of -Resolution No.621 adopted
bythe City Council at a regular meeting thereof held on the 11th day of October,
194$, at the Council Chambers in the City Hall, Redwood City, California.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF I have hereunto set my hand and the seal of said City this
12th day of October, 1948.
Adjournment.
4VL"' as W. iWrv"
Clerk of the City of Redwood City, and
Ex -Officio Clerk of the Council thereof.
RALPH S."DODGE-Clerk of the City of Redwood
