42 <br />MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING <br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />October 18th, 194$1 5.:00 P.M. <br />ON ROLL.CALL the following were present: Councilmen Carl A. Britschgi, Floyd D. Granger, <br />H. E. Holmquist, Albert H. Morgan, Jr., Robert V. Spillers, Arthur V. Swift, Mayor <br />William id. Werder and City Clerk Ralph S. Dodge. Also present were: Fire Chief <br />Joe. Brophy. <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes of the regular meeting of October 4th, and the adjourned <br />meeting of October 11th were approved as mailed on motion of Councilman'Morgan, <br />seconded by Councilman Holmquist, and carried. 1, <br />PENINSULA DIVISION, LEAGUE OF CALIFORNIA CITIES, invited City officials to a dinner at <br />7:00'P.M., Thursday, October 21st, Pompeian Room, Montgomery Hotel, San Jose. <br />Speakers were to be Arch B. Davison, Mayor, Colusa, and President of the League and <br />Elmer E. Robinson, Mayor of San Francisco and the subject would be "The Coming Year's <br />Problems". Communication ordered filed. <br />CITY WAS IN RECEIPT OF A LETTER FROM RICHARD GRAVES, executive director of the League <br />of California Cities, urging that the city go on record as urging the passage of <br />ballot Proposition No. 18 dealing with refund to cities of Veteran, Hospital and <br />Charitabe exemptions. The measure had the support of County Supervisors Association <br />and other groups. The amount of refund would practically pay for the City Clerk <br />and City Collector departmental budgets. In a separate letter the League urged the <br />defeat of Proposition 13 which dealt with reapportionment of the State Senate.) <br />Administrative Assistant Richard D. Miller informed the,Council of the contents of <br />the letters. Councilman Granger.thought the information should be given to the <br />Tribune and the Council should take no action nor get into a political discussion. <br />Councilman Morgan moved that communication be filed, seconded by Councilman Swift, <br />and carried. <br />PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION RE0014MENDED THAT THE City Council authorize Park Superin- <br />tendent Pasco Balzarini to submit plans for the construction of a small building <br />to be used for storage of his trucks and equipment. Present facilities now being <br />used by the Park Department (Robinson property) would be abated and construction <br />should start soon, funds should come from the Community Park Bonds. Councilman <br />Spillers inquired what the building would, cost. Recreation Director Red Morton <br />stated this would be taken up with Building Inspector Duncan and it was thought the <br />cost would be approximately $3500 excluding labor. Councilman Granger thought this <br />5 g <br />would mean two corporation yards and if money was spent for this there wouldn't <br />be funds for other things. City Manager Rolison stated he saw the plans for the <br />first time on this date. Councilman Morgan moved that communication be referred <br />to City.Manager Rolison and the correct information brought back to the Council <br />at the next meeting, seconded by Councilman Granger. Motion carried. <br />RECREATION COMMISSION RECOMMENDED THE TRADE OF City owned parcel of land of Lot 7, Block <br />2, Wallace Subdivision which is 10 feet wide, with Fred J. Halterman, owner of Lot <br />9, Block 2, Wallace Subdivision which was 45 feet wide. If the City acquired this <br />land it would provide sufficient space for bleachers at the new softball field <br />throughout the home plate area.
