III
0
transformers to be set up. ' Gouncilmen'Spillers and Holmquist, the Real Estate 43
Committee, approved of the transaction and thought the City would benefit from it.
Councilman Granger moved this be referred to the City Attorney and that he be author-
ized to take the necessary action to progress with the transfer, preliminary title
search having been made, each to pay for their own title search, seconded by Council-
man Holmquist. City Attorney Currie stated he had been consulted about this matter
and recommended that each bear own totle search expense. Papers will be ready at the
next meeting. Motion carried.
RECREATION COMMISSION INFORMED THE COUNCIL that Teen Age Center was, established two years
ago and procedure for use of revenues from the concessions was adopted with the ap-
proval of the Center Committee appointed by the Mayor. Revenues were used for the
betterment of the Teen Age Center. The Recreation Center now serving the same pur-
pose is'located on City owned property, and it was thought that if this procedure
should continue it should again have the approval of the City Council. Councilman
Granger directed question to City Attorney Currie whether monies could be collected
by any department without turning in according to the Charter. City Attorney Currie
stated all monies were to be turned into the City Treasury. Red Morton stated that
money was taken in for coke, candy and cards. The teen age group sent three children
and one adult down to Asilomar on money received and stated the City Treasurer would
be issuing checks for coke and candy, etc. Councilman Granger thought that according
to the Charter there was no choice in the matter. Councilman Morgan suggested that
if money was turned in by this group to the City Treasurer, that a check be issued in
same amount for general expenses. Councilman Britschgi moved that this be referred
to City Attorney Currie, Auditor Brophy and Recreation Department, that there might
be a little misunderstanding with the teen age group as they were an organization
iwthin an organization, bought their own cards, etc., and with a little more study
something might be worked out. Councilman Spillers seconded motion, and carried.
L. C. SMITH REQUESTED 120 day extension on his contract for installation of street improve-
ments, Redwood Terrace No. 1; due to strikes they could not get asphalt. City Engineer
Jain stated that much could be done in the meantime, that this job was to have been
done December 1947 and they did not proceed with this until July, 1948. The base
z
rock could be put in and sealed before the rains and if 120 days were given this
{ would take until the middle of•the winter and it would be better to wait to complete
the job in the spring. He, therefore, suggested that a 60 day extension be granted
} from the date of the last extension, October 1,-1948 which would be November 30, 1948.
Councilman Spillers so moved, seconded by Councilman Britschgi. Motion carried.
REMOVAL OF POLES ON JEFFERSON AVENUE BETWEEN BROADWAY AND MIDDLEFIELD ROAD. Communication
from the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company stated arrangements had been made
with the owners of the new buildings at this location to provide service from their
underground system of Jefferson Avenue. It was proposed tb extend their facilities
'j in the block and remove the pole line on Jefferson. The work would commence shortly
gafter completion of the new buildings and the pole line would be removed about June
it 1949. Councilman Gr"anger moved that the letter be acknowledged stating the matter
would be placed on the agenda for the first meeting in June, 1949, seconded by
i
Councilman Swift, and carried.
TRAFFIC AND SAFETY COMMISSION REPORTED THAT Ali OFFICER WAS ON DUTY AT THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC
