RESOLUTION ORDERING AND CALLING A MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE HELD IN THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY ON APRIL 11, 1950 FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING THREE MEMBER OF THE CITY COUNCIL, ORDERING `.t'HE SUBMISSION OF AN MI'=TDMEITT TO SECTION 9 OF THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY RELATIVE TO COMPENSATION OF trlEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL. RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Redwood City, and it is hereby ordered as follows: 1. A general municipal election is hereby called and ordered to be held in the City of Redwood City, State of California, on Tuesday, April 11, 1950 for the purpose of electing three (3) councilmen for the full term of four (4.) years each. The members elected to each of the aforementioned offices shall hold office for a period of four (4.) years from and after the first Monday next ducceeding the day of the election and until theri successors are elected and qualified. 2. The following measure proposing to amend the City Charter shall be submitted at the general election to be held in the City of Redwood City, State of California, April 11, 1950, to -wit: MEASURE NO. 2: AMENDMENT OF SECTION 9 OF THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY, CALIFORNIA RELATIBE TO COMPENSATIOIT OF MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL. Shall Section 9 of the Charter of the City of Redwood City, California be amended to read as follows: Section 9. THE COUNCIL: The council shall be comprised of seven councilmen, including the mayor, and shall be the legislative body of the city, each of the members of which, including the mayor, shall have the right to vote upon all questions before it. Councilmen shall be elected at each general municipal election and shall hold office for the term of four years from and after the Ltonday next succeeding the day of such election, and until their successors are elected and qualified. The councilmen in office at the time of this charter taking effect shall continue in office until the end of the terms for which they were respectively elected. Any vacancy occurring in the Council shall be filled by appointment by the remaining councilmen; but in the event that said remaining councilmen fail to fill such vacancy by appointment within 60 days after vacancy occurs, they must immediately cause an election to be held to fill such vacancy; provided, however, that any person appointed to fill such vacancy shall hold office only until the next regular election, at which date a person shall be elected to serve for the remainder of such unexpired term. In case a member of the Council is absent from the city for a period of 90 days, unless by permission of the Council, his office shall be the Council be declared vacant and the same filled as in the case of,other vacancies. The Councilmen shall receive as compensation 4150.00 per month. No Councilman shall be eligible during the term for which he was appointed or elected to hold any other office or employment with the city, except as a member of any board, commission, or committee thereof, of which he is constituted such member by general law or by this charter. 3. All persons qualified to vote at municipal elections in said City of Redwood City upon the date of the election herein provided shall be qualified to vote upon the measure submitted herein. 4.. The polls at the polling places to be designated by a resolution of the Council of the City of Redwood City shall be opened at 7:00 o'clock A. Ir,. of said day of election and shall be kept open continously thereafter until 7:00 o'clock P. I,% of said day of election, when the polls shall be closed (except as provided in Sec- tion 5734. of the Election Code) and the election officers shall thereupon proceed to canvass the ballots cast thereat. 5. The City Clerk shall procure all supplies and employ such assistance as may be necessary properly and lawfully to conduct said election. The City Clerk shall prepare and mail ballots to absentee voters and accept such ballots after they shall have been voted, in accordance with the law. 6. The City Clerk shall notify the election officers of their appointment at the time and in the manner provided by law. 7. Each voter to vote for the measure submitted by this resolution and for amending said Section 9 of the Charter of the City of Redwood City shall stamp a cross (X) in the blank space opposite the space "Yes" on the ballot to the right of said measure, and to vote against said measure and against amending said Section 9 of the Charter of Redwood City, shall stamp a cross (X) in the blank space opposite the word "No" on the ballot to the right of said measure.
