PETITION WITH 25 SIGNATURES ASKED THAT DRAINAGE DITCHES BE RESTORED TO PREVENT FLOOD WATERS at high tide and after heavy rains in the 500 block of Alden Street and at the intersection of Alden Street and Winslow Street and land of adjoining property owners. During the course of installation of ourfall sewer by Peter Sorensen Company, drainage ditches were caused to be filled with soil. The City owns a 20 foot right-of-way extending along northeasterly side of the Pulgas line, northerly from Brewster Avenue and southerly from northerly line of East Hopkins Avenue. Attempts had been made to open this ditch which had been filled in and over which the Greenhouse Company had constructed a driveway but the owner had. threatened those who came onto the property and the condition had never been cor- rected. Water Superintenchnt.Winter vertified a verbal agreement that the owner of this property would put in a culvert. The agreement was made in his presence with former City Manager Blom.. Councilman',Britschgi moved that the City Engineer be given police protection to proceed upon the property to dig the ditch and later amended the motion with the consent of the second, that the owner be ordered to put in the culvert. Motion seconded by Councilman Morgan. City Engineer Jain stated the ditch would not have to be very deep, but the driveway would have to be dug out. ,Mr. John Robb appeared and spoke on the subject. Councilman Britschgi withdrew his motion with the consent of the second. He then moved that City Manager Rolison and City Engineer Jain be given authority to open up the ditch or have Mr. Sorensen do so as it was indicated he was willing to do so, police protection would be provided, seconded by Councilman Morgan.
