by Councilman Morgan. Motion carried. <br />ADOPTION OF ORDINANCE No. 604. Councilman Morgan moved adoption of Salary Ordinance on <br />Field Clerk, seconded by Councilman Britschgi. Motion carried. <br />STATE ARI4ORY BUILDING. City Attorney reported having received a letter asking for further <br />changes other than in the deed given and suggested that this be dropped from the <br />agenda and he would report from time to time as negotiations were still being worked <br />out. He also stated that certain conditions would have to remain in the deed or it <br />would not be valid. Councilman Britschgi moved that this be dropped from the agenda, <br />seconded by Councilman Spillers, and carried. <br />APPOINTMENT OF NEW I4EMBER TO PERSONNEL BOARD. Councilman Swift moved that this be laid <br />over to the next meeting, seconded by Councilman Morgan, and carried. <br />P-- <br />PAGE PLACE CHANGED TO SIXTH AVENUE. Ordinance was ready for introduction and Councilman <br />Granger moved introduction of ordinance with the statement that when the ordinance <br />was adopted that everyone concerned with the change of street name be notified such <br />as the Telephone Company and P.G.& E. Motion seconded by Councilman Morgan, and <br />carried. Assessor Brophy stated that no occupants are living in any of the houses <br />as they are not finished. Councilman Britschgi suggested that street names be <br />placed on the street before anyone moves in. <br />VOLUNTARY CENSORSHIP OF COMIC BOOKS. Mayor Werder stated this question was presented to <br />him during the past week and that if the resolution was adopted, the Council would <br />be able to count upon merchants to give co-operation. Councilman Spillers offered <br />the resolution and moved adoption, seconded by Councilman Morgan. Councilman <br />Britschgi suggested that copies be made•to be distributed by the Police Department <br />r <br />to the proprietors of stores. Motion carried on roll call. <br />R E S 0 L U•T I O N No. 622 <br />RESOLUTION URGING VOLUNTARY CENSORSHIP OF OFFENSIVE COI4IC BOOKS IN REDWOOD CITY <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Redwood City considers that distri- <br />bution of objectionable comic books within the City of Redwood City constitutes a <br />menace; <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of Redwood City that the sale <br />of all comic books now being offered to the children of the community should be <br />discouraged if such publications introduce gruesome scenes of bloodshed, mangled <br />bodies, and the like; present scenes of cruel or unusual torture likely to incite <br />sadism;•carry advertisements of products or objects which tend to contribute to <br />juvenile delinquency; contain material which is offensively sexy; glorify or condone <br />reprehensible characters or acts; or are marked by, or tend to create disrespect for <br />law and law enforcement officers; <br />FURTHER RESOLVED, that the said Council urges all local distributors to prac- <br />tice voluntary censorship over any obviously offensive publications. <br />Passed and adopted by the Council of the City of Redwood City at a regular <br />meeting thereof held on the 18th day of October, 1949, by the following vote: <br />AYES, and in favor of the passage and adoption of the foregoing resolution: <br />Councilmen: BRITSCHGI, GRANGER, HOLMQUIST, MORGAN, SPILLERS, SWIFT, and Mayor <br />IfERDER. <br />NOES, Councilmen: NONE <br />ABSENT, Councilmen: NONE. <br />W.
