b <br />51 <br />MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING <br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL. <br />November 1, 1945, 5:00 P. M. <br />ON ROLL CALL the following were present: Councilman Carl A. Britschgi, H. E. Holmquist, <br />_a A. V. Swift, Mayor W. M. Werder and City Clerk Ralph S. Dodge. Also present were: <br />City Collector P. E. Perrin, Water Superintendent L. M. Winter, Police Chief C. L. <br />Collins, Building Inspector L. M. Duncan, City Engineer Glenn M. Jain, Fire Inspector <br />Richard Drivon, Administrative Assistant Richard D. Miller, City Attorney Cuthbert B. <br />Currie, Assessor -Auditor John J. Brophy. Councilmen Granger, Morgan Jr., and <br />Spillers noted absent. <br />j <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes of the regular meeting of October 15th were approved as <br />mailed on motion of Councilman Swift, seconded by Councilman Britschgi, and carried. <br />APPLICATION FOR RESTAURANT LICENSE, including general on sale liquor license and dance <br />I <br />permit, 1436 E1 Camino Real, Arnold Bassett, James A. Swizell & John Kennedy, busi- <br />ness known as "Jay's". Health, Building, Fire and Police Departments recommended <br />approval. Permit granted on motion of Councilman Swift, seconded by Councilman <br />Britschgi, and cp.rried. <br />Councilmen Albert H. Morgan, Jr. and Robert V. Spillers entered the meeting. <br />APPLICATION FOR RESTAURANT LICENSE, beer license applied for, 3706 Bayshore, Mrs. Verneda <br />and Mr. Frank L. Langheine, business known as "Lucky Cafe". Health, Building, Fire <br />and Police Departments recommended approval. Permit granted on motion of Councilman <br />Britschgi, seconded by Councilman Spillers, and carried. <br />Councilman Floyd D. Granger entered the meeting. <br />BID ON CAST IRON BELL AND SPIGOT PIPE BY UNITED STATES PIPE AND FOUNDRY COMPANY was the <br />only 'lid received and recommended to purchase by the City Manager. $4.14 per foot <br />was quoted for 900 feet of 12" pipe. Mr. Rolison stated that the price had increased <br />slightly but this had been expected. The bid was awarded on motion of Councilman <br />Holmquist, seconded by Councilman Spillers, and carried. <br />BIDS ON WRECKING OF ROBINSON PROPERTY, opposite the City Hall on Middlefield Road. In <br />asmuch as the high bidder, Mr. L. E. McQuiston, a city employee was excluded from <br />bidding by the City Charter on advice of City Attorney Currie, it was the City <br />Manager's recommendation that the second highest bidder, Mr. G. N. Conyler, be <br />awarded the contract for his bid of $152.00 to be paid to the City. City Manager <br />Roli.son further recommended that he be required to furnish insurance and public <br />liability and property damage insurance to cover his operations on project, and a <br />bond to cover the complete demolition and removal of all materials from the site. <br />Councilman Morgan moved that City Manager Rolison's recommendation of bid be awarded <br />to Mr. Conyler, and that recommended provisions for cleaning up site, etc., be in - <br />eluded in the contract to be -drawn up by City Attorney Currie, seconded by Council- <br />man Spillers, and carried. <br />I PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION RECOMMENDED THAT ALL REVENUES COLLECTED at the Community <br />Center Building be deposited with the City Treasurer and applied to the Special <br />Recreation Fund Account. It was also suggested that all expenditures from this <br />fund be first approved by the Council. Councilman Britschgi moved approval of the <br />recommendation, seconded by Councilman Holmquist, and carried. <br />REESE STREET RESIDENTS REQUESTED REDROCK FOR THIS STREET in a letter signed by Judson <br />W. Mak, inasmuch as the City was about to start work on the paving of Johnson <br />
