L. <br />Lark, on motion of Councilman Swift, seconded by Councilman Britschgi, and carried. <br />ONE AND <br />BIDS ON/ONE-HALF TON HEAVY DUTY AND ONE -AND ONE: -HALF TON FLAT BED TRUCKS. City Manager <br />recommended the approval of the purchase'from Weltner Motors GMC combined bid of <br />$5010.04 in accord with City Engineer Jain. Although the combined bid was $43.62 I�9 <br />more than the Studebaker bid the difference in specifications was thought to off- <br />set this. Councilman Morgan moved that the recommendation be accepted, seconded <br />by Councilman Spillers, and carried. <br />r <br />THE PARAFFINE COMPANIES, INC. REQUESTED FIRE PROTECTION AND WERE WILLING TO PAY ANNUALLY <br />THE SUM OF $300 for same in a letter by Mr. S. A. Abrahams, Manager of Manufacture, <br />Insulations Division." The company was located just outside the City Limits on <br />Harbor Boulevard and would like -a written agreement to this effect. Although the <br />City officials were willing to give fire protection provided they were not needed <br />elsewhere for a fire, there were other companies similarly situated who might apply y <br />for the same protection and there was a ,question of whether the Council wished to j <br />set a precedent by entering into such an agreement. Councilman Granger thought <br />this should be referred to City Attorney to determine if they would be qualified <br />for protection under Mutual Aid. Councilman Holmquist moved that investigation <br />be made and report made, seconded by Councilman Swift. Councilman Morgan suggested <br />the motion be amended and be referred to Fire Chief for some recommendation. This <br />was accepted by.the maker of the motion and the second. Motion carried. Council- <br />man.Britschgi suggested the City Manager cover, the important industries just <br />outside the City limits and report on fire conditions for them.. <br />A REQUEST TO USE THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS THURSDAY,, November 18th, at 9:30 P.14. by the <br />Sequoia Dlstrict.Pharmicist's Association, for the,purpose of a business meeting. <br />Councilman Swift moved the request be granted, seconded by,Councilman.Spillers. <br />Under discussion it was thought the Council Chambers should not be open to anone <br />except civic organizations. On roll call the motion was defeated 5 to 2'. Coun-. <br />oilman Granger moved that records be searched for rules and regulations estab- <br />lished along this line during the time Mayor Anderson was in office, 1940-42, � <br />a report to be made at the next meeting, seconded by Councilman Morgan, and carried. <br />JOHNSON STREET IMPROVEMENTS. A letter from Mr. Jain stated that the contractor was <br />reluctant to start construction at this late date due to possibility of being <br />caught by rainy season, and he also felt it was not good practice to attempt pIH <br />construction of this type so late in the season and possibly block residents of <br />the street from their homes. However, the letter requested instruction from the �! <br />Council whether to start or wait until early spring, that in his opinion, the <br />City and not the contractor would be responsible for any faulty construction. <br />City Manager Rolison stated that since writing the letter the people out there <br />were assured that work wouldE.be started in 6 day or two.
