<br />LETTER FROM LEAGUE OF CALIFORNIA CITIES in regards to the water problem, stated that they
<br />were not qualified to make any suggestions that might be helpful; that they had
<br />discussed the matter with Mr. Reinke of the Division of Invironmental Sanitation of
<br />4
<br />State Department of Public Health, and were of the opinion that our problem was
<br />highly technical in nature and not easy of solution. A report was also submitted
<br />by the Cook Research Laboratories of examination of several samples of water and
<br />found that heavy sediment was made up principally of iron, manganese and organic
<br />matter, the latter residue of dead algae, and further stated that the City of
<br />San Francisco was aware of the cause of occasional °dirty water" and had budgeted
<br />funds for a treatment,plant that would correct this. The plant was expected to be
<br />in 6peration by the Fall of 1949, and consequently, a treatment plant for Redwood
<br />City was no indicated. Councilman Morgan moved that this be placed on file and
<br />that for information of the public, Mr. Springer, representative of the Redwood City
<br />Tribune, publish the answer as received from the League.
<br />APPLICATION OF ANNA FRIED.dAN, 36 Laurel Street, to operate an Antique and Secondhad Store
<br />$500, which 'uas increased from $400 due to increase of population from 19,253 to
<br />20,951, according to the last Federal Census. $400 had been provided by the budget
<br />Councilman Morgan moved that the increase be paid and offered resolution and moved
<br />adoption transferring $100 from Unbudgeted Reserve, seconded by Councilman Swift.
<br />Administrative Assistant Miller stated the League had used the figure turned in by
<br />the City in connection with the allocation of funds from the State Gasoline Tax.

<br />AUTHORIZING TRANSFER OF $100.00 FROM UNBUDGETED RESERVE TO LEAGUE DUES,
<br />LEAGUE OF CALIFORNIA CITIES.
<br />RESOLVED, by the Council of the City of Redwood City, that the sum of $100.00
<br />be, and it is hereby 11 rected, transferred from Unbudgeted Reserve to Account 401.12,
<br />General Government - League Dures, this transfer being necessary due to increase'in'
<br />League membership dues from $400.00 to $500.00 which dues are computed on the basis
<br />of the present population listed as 20,951.
<br />Passed and adopted by the Council at a regular meeting thereof, held in the
<br />Council Chambers, City Hall,, Redwood City, California on the 3rd day of January,
