<br />REPORT ON BUS BENCHES BY COUNCILMAN MORGAN, chairman. As Councilman Spillers had been 95
<br />away they had not been able to get together and this wa placed on the agenda.
<br />REPORT OF COMPLAINT$ S & W COMMITTEE MEETING. Mr. Whitely, one of the residents who
<br />protested activities of S & W, reported that he had talked to Mr. tum Suden, Attorney
<br />representing the residents, who stated that Mr. Menefee was submitting an agreement .of
<br />S & W whereby they agreed to everything in writing. Councilman Swift stated that at
<br />the committee meeting in Mr. Menefee's office it appeared that everthing would be
<br />settled to the satisfaction of everyone. Councilman.Spillers, chairman, had -to attend.
<br />another meeting at this time and could not be present at the Council meeting. This
<br />was placed on the agenda.
<br />ABATEMENT PACIFIC SURPLUS SALES COMPANY, 2063 Broadway. Mr. Fisher, owner and operator
<br />of this business appeared. City Attorney Currie stated this building was to have
<br />been vacated on the first day of January. Mr. Fisher explained they had just closed
<br />the lease for 2565 Broadway adjoining their present location. Mr. Fontana, owner
<br />of the property had to remove the restaurant equipment before the building could be
<br />occupied, and they would be able to move in about three weeks. They, therefor asked
<br />for an extension of time of three weeks. Councilman Morgan moved that an extension
<br />of time be granted to the first meeting in February, seconded by CouncilmanHolmquist.
<br />After further discussion in regards to calling for bids to demolish the building,
<br />motion was withdrawn with the consent of the second. Councilman Morgan moved that
<br />City Manager Rolison advertise for bids, to demolish the building, seconded by
<br />Councilman Granger, and carried.
<br />ABATEMENT BENEDICT & ANGLIA ASSENZA PROPERTY, 537-541 Middlefield Road, Lots 1 & 21 Block
<br />3,- Range D. Mezesville. Building was posted originally. in May and on November 18th,,
<br />1948. Sworn testimony of Building Inspector Duncan was taken as follows:
<br />�1) There was no foundation under the building. (2) Floors were sinking.
<br />3) Wiring was in poor condition. (4) Plumbing in poor condition.
<br />(5) Illegal flue. (6) Railing was gone from upstairs porch and in a
<br />dangerous condition. (7) In his opinion the building should be
<br />razed and he so recommended.
<br />Councilman Morgan offered resolution and moved adoption that the nuisance be abated
<br />in thirty days, seconded by Councilman Granger, and carried on roll call. Council-
<br />man Britschgi and Spillers noted absent.

<br />DECLARING PREMISES AT 537 AND 541 MIDDLEFIELD ROAD A NUISANCE AND ORDERING
<br />ABATEMENT WITHIN THIRTY DAYS
<br />WHEREAS, L. M. Duncan, the Building Inspector of the City of Redwod City, did,
<br />as required by Ordinance No. 303, post a notice to abate nuisance upon the real
<br />property situated in said City, County of San Mateo, State of California, and
<br />particularly described as follows:
<br />Lots 1 and 2 Block 3, Range D, Mezesville, commonly known
<br />as 537 and 5�1 Middlefield Road;
<br />and did send a copy of said notice so posted, by registered mail, postage prepaid,
<br />to the owners of said real property, as said owners are listed upon the books of
<br />the City Assessor of said City of Redwood City, to wir: "Benedict and Anglia
<br />Assenza, 734 Menlo Avenue, Menlo Park, Californias'; and
<br />WHEREAS, -in and by said notice to abate nuisance, said Building Inspector of
<br />the City of Redwood City did fix Monday, December 6, 1945, at the hour of 8:00
<br />o'clock P.M. of said day at the Council Chamber in the City Hall on.Middlefield
<br />Road in said City of Redwood City, as the time and place when the owners of the
<br />buildings situated upon said real property could appear and be heard and show cause
<br />why said buildings should not be condemned as a public nuisance and abated by
<br />reconstructing or properly repairing said buildings or by razing or removing the
<br />same; and
<br />WHEREAS said Council did regularly continue said hearing until the 20th da
<br />of December, 1948, at 8:00 o'clock P.M. and did on.the 20th day of December, 1948P
<br />regularly continue said hearing until the 3rd day of January, 1949, at 8100 o'clock
<br />P. M.; and
