Councilman Spillers moved approval of' recommendation for City Attorney
f
Currie to prepare ordinance, seconded by Councilman Royer and carried.
TTEE RECOMMENDED A STOP SIGN be established at Westgate
THE TRAFr^hC FACT FINDING COMIvII
ey-Westgate project was
and Alameda, stopping traffic on Westgate. Now that Stanl
completed, .a traffic hazard had developed. Motorists on Hopkins, bound south on
Alameda were proceeding via Westgate and entering Alameda at excessive rates of
speed. Councilman Spillers moved approval of recommendation, City Attorney Currie
'to prepare the ordinance and combine the two above recommendations for stop signs,
seconded by Councilman Royer and carried.
FIRE AND BUILDING DEPARTMENTS REPORTS ON BUILDING AT REAR OF STEWART PROPERTY, 117
Madison Avenue. The inspection was made June 7th. A wood frame shed at the rear
,of the property was being used for storage. The structure was old and unsightly.
If the area was to be zoned for business the structure would not comply with the
'First Fire Zone requirements and the Fire Department recommended that the shed be
I demolished if zoning was changed. As the Planning Commission had recommended
denial of request to rezone, Councilman Royer moved that application and appeal be
in
denied to rezone this property, seconded by Councilman Jones and carried.
ABATEMENT OF 235 PENNSYLVANIA AVENUE, Lots 4 and 5, Block 3, Diller Addition, an old
'two-story building. The Building and Fire Departments recommended the structures
be demolished and lots cleared as there was no foundation, rotted and saffing;
floors at rear rotted and breaking through; floors out of level; illegal wiring;
illegal gas valve on gas heater; in No. 1 Fire Zone and could not comply. Council-
man Spillers moved that the building be posted, seconded by Councilman Jones and
carried.
THE REAL .ESTATE COMMITTEE REPORTED ON CITY PROPERTY AT HARBOR BOULEVARD AND BAYSHORE.
City Manager Rolison stated this had been, discussed with the Council informally
and it was his recommendation that the house be rented to the new maintenance
Superintendent. There were no children and renting the house would render a service
to the City as the Paint Shop was at this location, and it would be convenient for
the employee. After further discussion Councilman Royer moved that the present
be I
Cour
PETITION
tion,
and
cont
to t
nect
not
of C
situ
they
j
was
be r
,
on N
ANNA FRIE
beers
963-C
siorn
deni
secc
d
`ALLEGED T
for
curl
on
i
insl
and
FIVE POID
Real
Maintenance Superintendent be allowed to occupy the premises at the same previous
rental of 030.00 per month with the understanding that he maintain the premises,
the City to provide the paint, and the lease would automatically expire at any
time he might sever his connection with the City, seconded by Councilman Spillers.
Rental collected had always been credited to the Water Department Account. It was
suggested by the Mayor that it might be well to set this as a separate account for
a year or so and use the money later, with possible contributions from other depart-
ment sources, to build a paint shop in the Corporation Yard. City Attorney Curries'
opinion on this"was that he didn't see how premises could be the property of the
Water Department in particular. The City Attorney was to check into this and pre-
pare a resolution with the thought in mind that a special fun& would be set up.
This was placed on the agenda for the next meeting.
PETITION FOR ANNEXATION. Mr. Michael V. Ignotz submitted a letter petitioning at the
request of the majority of residents in Blocks 1, 2, 3, and 6 bordering Canyon
Road off Jefferson Avenue, adjacent to the City limits. There were eleven dwellings
on these properties, ten of which were occupied.
