WHEREAS it is necessary and for the best interests of the people of Redwood City

<br />and of San Mateo County and of the State that this property be used as the site of ; : ',',
<br />a building to house the Superior Court of the State of California in and for the k�i li
<br />County of San Mateo and for other public offices; and
<br />WHEREAS by Article 8, Chapter 2, Part 1, Division 1, Title 5 of the Government
<br />Code this council is first required to submit to the City Planning Commission a
<br />proposal to lease or grant this property to the county for the purposes above speci-
<br />fled, for a report thereon, now, therefore,
<br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of Redwood City, that the public necessity re-
<br />quires the erection in Redwood City of a building to provide court rooms and other
<br />facilities for the Superior Court of the State of California ,in and for the County
<br />of San Mateo and for other public offices; that the land known as California Square
<br />above described is necessarytherefor-, that the location of such a building on
<br />California Square is most cmpatible with the greatest public good and the least
<br />Private injury; that it is the intention of this council to grant or lease said
<br />Property to the County of San Mateo for the purposes aforesaid as authorized by law
<br />on such terms as may hereafter be agreed upon; that a copy of this resolution be
<br />forI:A.rded by the clerk of this body to the City Planning Commission for a report
<br />thereon.

<br />WHEREAS the existing Cour house of San,Matep County is totally inadequate to
<br />meet the needs of the people of this county and this city and has not sufficient
<br />court rooms for the number of departments of the Superior Court established by
<br />law, it being urgently necessary to provide additional space for the Superior Court
<br />the County and for other public offices; and
<br />of
<br />WHEREAS, it is impossible to provide additional space in or to add any space
<br />to the existing court house and county building and there being no spaceavailable
<br />sf�
<br />on the present court house site for any additional structures; and
<br />WHEREAS California Square is located close to the existing court house and
<br />is the only unimproved property within an appropriate distance of the existing court
<br />house upon which could be erected a building for the courts and other public offices;
<br />and
<br />WHEREAS no public use has been made of California. Square for many years except
<br />some parking of publicly owned automobiles-,andit
<br />WHEREAS the erection thereon of a building to house the courts of the county
<br />and for other public purposes is a more necessary public use than that to whichi°°'ii;a
<br />said land is now appropriated; and
