19 <br />PROPOSED IMPROVEMENT•- MARSHALL STREET, CHESTNUT TO MAPLE STREET. Mr. James Nilam and Mr. <br />Frank De Patta were on hand to speak on the subject. They were informed that the City <br />Engineer was working up a complete summary of the proceedings from the beginning for <br />the benefit of the new Council members. It was suggested that a meeting be"arranged with <br />the interested parties for Monday evening, May 12th at which time the members of the <br />Council, City Engineer, City Manager, City Attorney, and all parties interested could <br />go over the proposed project. After discussion, it was so decided. <br />MR. L. LODI.APPrEARED FOR ALFRED ALOE, 1015 Valota Road. This was held over for the return <br />of City Engineer Jain. <br />PLANNING COMMISSION RECOMMENDED VARIANCE TO JOS. SOUTHWARD from 20 ft. to 10 ft. on -Lot 19, <br />.i Silver Manor, (Redwood Avenue near Valota Road) due to hardship caused Jay creek bisee. <br />ting property. Recommendation and RESOLUTION No. 1246 offered by Councilman Spillers <br />who moved i.bs adoption, .seconded by Councilwoman Tinney and carried on roll call. <br />PLANNING COMMISSION RECOMMENDED APPROVAL OF FINAL MAP, SHAW TRACT,. recommending further that <br />variance be approved allowing reduction in front yard setback from 20 to 15 ft. on <br />Lot 1. Councilman Royer moved approval, seconded by Councilman Herkner, and carried. <br />PLANNING COMMISSION RECOMMENDED APPROVAL OF APPLICATION OF E. 'T. KENNEDY to move garage from <br />460 Clinton Street to 735 Brewster Avenue, all conditions having been met. Approved on <br />motion of Councilman Spillers, seconded by Councilman Jones and carried. <br />LETTER FR0M4 WESTWOOD TERRACE IMPROVEMENT CLUB requesting City to take action resulting in <br />proper repairs to Westwood and Fernside Streets, also parts of Roosevelt Avenue. On <br />motion of Councilman Royer, seconded by Councilman Spillers, the matter was referred to <br />City Engineer Jain to take the necessary steps to have streets put in satisfactory <br />condition, report to be made to the Council. Motion carried. Councilman Herkner <br />stated that DelaWgre Street also was in bad condition. Councilman Jones was 6f ---the <br />opinion that several streets in the area were in bad condition and a survey should be <br />made of the entire area. Councilman Herkner moved that the Delaware Avenue matter be <br />referred to City Manager Rolison, seconded by Councilman Royer. City Manager Rolison <br />advised that possibly seal coat would improve the condition, stating further that <br />streets now being put in are under improved specifications. Mr. Robert Beshore addressed <br />the Council and stated the desire of the Improvement Club that something be done soon <br />before the acceptance of the job by the City Engineer. Motion of Councilman Herkner <br />i <br />voted on and carried unanimously. <br />Councilman Britschgi moved that City Manager Rolison prepare a report of the area show - <br />Ing condition of streets, which streets have been accepted and which streets would <br />require repairs. His opinion was that more stringent specifications be enforced. <br />Councilman Herkner stated he would second the motion providing City Manager Rolison <br />check into specifications, and also to see if city inspection was satisfactory. Motion <br />carried. <br />LETTER AND PROPOSED AGREEMENT, SOUTHERN PACIFIC COMPANY, COVERING INSTALLATION OF PEDESTRIAN <br />GATES, BROADWAY CROSSING. City Attorney Currie stated he. had checked the agreement and <br />found same as discussed with representatives of the Southern Pacific Company some months <br />ago with the exception that agreement stipulates City will pay 50% of the actual cost <br />of installation. In a letter dated December 19, 1951; Mr. J. J. Jordan quoted the <br />estimate of the job to be $5,850, of which the City would pay an estimated cost of <br />$2,025.
