<br />Redwood City Council
<br />May 5, 1952 - 8:00 P.M.
<br />ON ROLL CALL the following were present: Councilmen: Carl A. Britschgi, Sidney D. Herkner
<br />Paul Jones, Wm, H, Royer, Robert V. Spillers, Christine Tinney, Mayor Granger, and
<br />Ralph S. Dodge, City Clerk. Also present were: Fire Chief J, L. tj6di, Assistant Fire
<br />Chief W. Leslie, 'Fire Marshal Richard Drivon, Building Inspector L. M..Duncan, Assis-
<br />tant Building Inspectors Stephen Kreiss and B. C. Gyselbrecht, Water Superintendent
<br />H. L. Winter, Police Chief S. D. Wood, City Engineer Glenn M. Jain,.Civil Engineering
<br />Assistant Art Eskelin, City Attorney C`. B. Currie, City Manager E. A. Rolison, Admin-
<br />istrative Assistant Orrin Wendling, end City Collector P. E., Perrin.
<br />MINUTES OF REGULAR.MEETING, April 21st were approved as mailed with the date of hearing on
<br />official plan lines corrected to May 19th, on motion of Councilman Spillers, seconded
<br />by Councilman Royer and carried.
<br />APPEAL TO DECISION OF PLANNING COMMISSION REGARDING GRANTING USE PERMIT to construct a
<br />Motel on Lots 4 to 9, Block 11, Range B; Mezesville. Mayor Granger explained to the
<br />people in the audience that a public hearing would be set for the next meeting, May
<br />19th, if'the Council so desired. Councilman Royer so moved, seconded by Councilman
<br />Spillers. It being noted that official plan lines hearings were set for the 19th,
<br />date of Motel hearing was changed to the first meeting in June, or June 2nd,.with the
<br />consent of Councilman Royer, and the second. Motion carried,
<br />FURTHER CONSIDERATION ON CONDITION OF SIDEWALKS 900 Block on 10th Avenue. Councilman
<br />Herkner stated the committee had had insufficient time to complete their studies, and
<br />the matter was placed on the agenda on motion of Councilman Royer.' seconded by Coun-
<br />oilman Herkner, and carried.
<br />OPENING OF BIDS, STAMBAUGH STREET SEWERS. Following bids were read by Clerk Dodge, and
<br />referred to City Engineer Jain for checking and report back later in teh meeting:
<br />1. Anthony Izzi, Alameda, Calif. $10,215.50
<br />2. Domingos Balanco, San Lorenzo - Bid was unsigned 10,851.00
<br />.A. J, Peters & Son, San Jose 12,.12.85
<br />. Howard Baker, Menlo Park 1 ,045.98
<br />5 Peter Sorensen, Redwood City 1 ,067.30
<br />6. D. A. Parrish & Son, Stockton 1 ,837.02
<br />PROGRESS ESTIMATE No. 3, S, & Q, Construction Company, Franklin Street job. The amount due
<br />this payment is $7:408.69 and was ordered paid on motion of Councilman Spillers, sec-
<br />onded by Councilman Herkner, and carried.
<br />PUBLIC HEARING ON STAMBAUGH STREET SEWERS. Affidavit of publishing, mailing and posting
<br />was ordered filed by Mayor Granger. City Engineer Jain had not returned so hearing
<br />was held up until his return.
<br />ROLLER RINK AT MAIN AND ELM STREETS. Mr. Fred Schmitz was informed by Mayor Granger that
<br />the matter was not before the Council, there having been no protest filed. He assured
<br />Mr. Schmitz, the construction would be held strictly to building code, and the conditions
<br />as listed by the Planning Commission when use permit was allowed, would be enforced.
<br />The Planning Commission conditions were as follows:
<br />1. Hours of operation limited to 11:00 P. M.
<br />2. No lights shining toward the street
<br />. Noise kept at a minimum
<br />. Cement block wall 5 feet high
<br />PLANNING COMMISSION RECOMMEND VARIANCE G. H. PETERSON front yard setback, 20 ft, to 15 ft.
<br />on Lots 1 & 2, Block 1, Reese Subdivision, (Reese and Redwood) based on hardship due

<br />to creek bisecting the property. /offered by Councilman Spillers, who moved its adop-
<br />tion;seconded by Councilman Jones, and carried on roll call.
