Councilman Royer moved this matter be placed on <br />agenda for the June 2nd meeting to allow City Attorney to contact owner, seconded by <br />Councilman Spillers and carried. <br />RESTAURANT APPLICATIONS: Jay -Tee Doughnut Co.#3,, 593 Woodside Road, approved on motion of <br />Councilman Spillers, seconded by Councilman Herkner and carried. Roadside Cafe, 2581 <br />Middlefield Road, beer and wine license. Transfer of license. Approved on motion of <br />Councilman Spillers, seconded by Councilman Royer and carried. Nina Hut. 2550 El <br />Camino Real, transfer. Approved on motion of Councilman Spillers, seconded by Council- <br />man Herkner and carried. <br />COUNTY ASSESSMENT DISTRICT, ALAMEDA BETWEEN JEFFERSON AND HARDING AVENUES. County by <br />resolution proceeded with formation of the assessment district eliminating the area <br />within the City, however they had proceeded leaving out the area. There being no <br />further action necessary on the part of the City, the matter was dropped from the <br />agenda on motion of Councilman Spillers, seconded by Councilwoman Tinney and carried. <br />TERRACE SHOPPING CENTER IMPROVEMENTS - L. 0. SMITH, CONTRACTOR. Letter received.from con- <br />tractor requesting Council to review findings of City Engineer Jain as noted'bolow: <br />City Engineer, in letter to Land Development & Investment Co., dated May 14 notes <br />certain unsatisfactory items: <br />1. Crusher run base rock not properly mixed and compacted, particularly adjacent to <br />curbs and headers and at curb returns, islands, And other sections of streets <br />and alleys. <br />2. Soft spots in base rock were observed with free water entering inspection holes. <br />( 3. Valve rings and covers not properly set to grade and without adequate support. <br />4. Monuments poured without pipes or brass caps as required by tract map and <br />! specifications. Must also be approved C. I. Rings and Covers with work "1Monument" <br />■iJ1 _ or "Mon" on cover. <br />5. Headers along alleys not to proper grade at various locations. <br />6. Base rock too high at various points, and low spots at others, which would result <br />in unequal thickness of pavement and less than minimum thickness at gutter and <br />header lines. <br />7. Sidewalks buckled and cracked to an unacceptable condition on all streets. <br />8. Intersections at Massachusetts and alley not properly graded or crowned for <br />required pavement thickness and cross section. <br />9. Curb and gutter in alley north of Massachusetts and north of Woodside Road dis- <br />placed so as to result in improper grade. <br />10. Pavement previously paved was not sealed as required by specifications. <br />11. Base rock at Woodside Road entrance not graded properly for minimum pavement <br />thickness. <br />Mr. Jain was of the opinion that above conditions should be corrected before allowing <br />A. C. surfacing to be placed. MR. MITCHELL BORGUINN, Attorney for L. C. Smith, <br />addressed the Council at length after which it was decided, on motion of Councilman <br />Royer, seconded by Councilman Spillers and carried, that the Mayor appoint a Council <br />Committee to meet with Mr. Smith's representatives, City Engineer, City Manager and <br />City Attorney to discuss the matter in detail, it being understood that the City was <br />waiving no rights in attempting to come to an agreement. Wednesday P. M. at 4:00 <br />o'clock in the City Managers office was selected as the time to hold the meeting. <br />C. G. UHLENBERG CO. AUDIT REPORT was read by City Clerk Dodge. On motion of Councilman <br />Royer, seconded by Councilman Spillers, copies of report are to be mailed to each <br />member of the Council. Motion carried. <br />LETTER FROM MRS. ANGELIA ROW expressing appreciation for the recent testimonial passed by <br />the Council in honor of Mr. Row, deceased service -man, was filed. <br />
