j <br />LETTER ON OPINION OF FIRE MARSHAL REGARDING' REQUEST' FOR SALE OF' FIREWORKS" PERMIT; FROM t <br />PRICE: ENTERPRISES. Mr. Price proposed to erect stands on vacant property at 2137 E1 <br />Camino Real, Oak Avenue and El Camino Real and one on Bayshore Highway not yet selected <br />and had made application to the Fire Department to sell safe and sane fireworks. The <br />department did not favor them due to constant policing and nuisance of stands. Permits <br />could not be granted without final approval of the Council. Councilman Spillers moved <br />that the permit be denied, seconded by Councilman Jones. No one was present represent- <br />ing Price,Enterprises. Motion carried. <br />REQUEST OF DISABLED AMERICAN VETERANS THAT THE COUNCIL REAFFIRM PERMISSION TO SHOW THE MOBILE <br />EXHIBIT, April 28th and 29th. Original approval February kth, 1952 gave permission to <br />show within 60 days. Councilman Britschgi moved that time be extended to permit them <br />to show, seconded by Councilman Spillers, and carried. <br />JOINT REPORT ON OLD BUILDINGS ADJOINING 1228 Shasta Street. House and barn at 1228 Shasta <br />Street, Lot 1 and northerly ll'ft of Lot 2, Block 10, Eastern Addition, owner Ella and <br />Roy Johnson, 1226 Westminister, Palo Alto. Building, Fire, and Health Departments <br />i <br />04 i <br />reported the dwelling is of wood foundation which was rotting and settling, front porch <br />falling apart, rear porch rotting, no studding to outside walls, board partitions <br />k throughout, wiring in poor condition, floors out of level and sagging, unvented gas <br />t heater in living room, and roof leaks. It was recommended that this be repaired or <br />J demolished. REPORT ON QLD BARN, rear of Lot - no foundation, walls of 1 x 10 or 1 x <br />12 up and down boards, building sagging and out of plumb, roof in bad condition, sagging <br />timbers along roof line which carries roof, upright supports bowed by too much weight, <br />building used to store junk, furniture, tires, extreme fire hazard, bad rodent harbor. <br />It was their recommendation that the building be demolished. Councilman Spillers moved <br />that both buildings be posted, seconded by Councilman Jones, and carried. <br />MAYOR GRANGER SPORE TO MRS. STEViART FERRIER. IN THE AUDIENCE in regard to the delay of bene- <br />fits due to her after her husband's death and stated the City Department heads would <br />held in every way possible as soon as word was received from Assemblyman Dolwig, to <br />whom the Mayor had written in regard to this. This.was not the first known delay of <br />this kind and the Mayor and Councilman Britschgi requested that someone with the City <br />be responsible to follow through on a case such as this: Councilman Royer moved that <br />the City Manager instruct someone within the City to report on whether or not Mrs. <br />Ferrier had received her money from the State at the next regular meeting, seconded by <br />Councilman Spillers. Mayor Granger thought someone should be thoroughly informed on <br />Civil Service affairs and if necessary go to Sacramento to be ad informed. City Mana- <br />ger Rolison referred this to the City Attorney and City Auditor inasmuch as it was both <br />a legal and accounting matter. Mayor Granger suggested the City Attorney and City <br />Auditor take over this activity from her on. Motion carried. <br />PRIORITY LIST - SNYDER'S REPORT OF THE CALIFORNIA STATE RECREATION COMEISSION. Councilman <br />Royer asked that this be held over to the next regular meeting. Another member was <br />needed on the Recreation Commission and should be a woman. Council members were to <br />consider whoever they wished to appoint to the Commission. Mayor Granger asked that <br />the appointment to the committee be placed on the agenda. <br />ORDINANCE INTRODUCED ESTABLISHING 30 ft. LOADING ZONE AND NO PARKING ZONE ON PORTIONS OF <br />WALNUT STREET; RAILWAY EXPRESS AGENCY, 809 Walnut Street, offered by Councilman Spillers, <br />seconded by Councilman Britschgi, and carried. <br />
