Regarding opening of'mew market, Jul el-" 1,952",, and inquire regarding <br />paving of Gity Parking Lot; City Manager Rolis6n advised that the Engineering Depart- <br />ment had been preparing the necessary plans for the City parking lot which were near- <br />ing completion. Councilman Royer moved that Mr. Rolison contact the Mayfair Market <br />and advise them of the present status, seconded by Councilman Spillers and carried. <br />REQUEST FOR PERMISSION TO OPERATE 2 RIDES FOR SMALL CHILDREN THREE DAYS, JULY 31, AUGUST <br />1 and 2, AT MAYFAIR OPENING. Location on store parking lot. Councilman Royer moved <br />that permission be granted, license to be waived as long as no charge was made, <br />seconded by Councilman Britschgi and carried. <br />RESOLUTION 1313 SUPPORT .OF RECENT ACTION OF AMERICAN LEGION, 26th,DISTRICT, URGING THE <br />COMPLETION OF THE BAYSHORE HIGHWAY was offered by Councilman Britschgi, who moved <br />adoption, seconded by Councilman Jones and carried on roll call., <br />City Clerk was to furnish copy of this resolution to the Interim Committee of the <br />California Legislature meeting in Long Beach on July 2kth. <br />APPOINTMENT OF MEMBER OF PLANNING COMMISSION., Councilman Britschgi asked that appoint- <br />ment of member to the Planning Commission be placed on the agenda for the August <br />4th meeting.. City Clerk was directed to check on commissions for any other possible <br />expirations of terms. <br />COUNCILMAN BRITSCHGI STATED THAT THE LIBRARY MINUTES RECENTLY RECEIVED WERE SOMEWHAT <br />LATE and asked that something be done so that minutes be received more promptly. <br />Councilwoman Tanney, chairman of Library Committee, will contact Miss Harper. <br />COUNCILMAN ROYER left the meeting. „ <br />COUNCILMAN SPILLERS REQUESTED CITY MANAGER TO TAKE STEPS to complete improvements at <br />Hawes Park - fences, toilet facilities, etc., which were in the new budget. <br />COUNCILWOMAN TINNEY COMMENTED ON FREIGHT TRAINS BLOCKING CROSSINGS IN SOME INSTANCES <br />holding up traffic for as long as 20 minutes. Protests have been made in the past, <br />however, .Mayor Granger was of the opinion that letter should be written to the Presi- <br />dent of the Southern Pacific Company in an effort to got some action in the matter. <br />Councilwoman.Tinney so moved, seconded by Councilman Britschgi and carried. <br />CITY ENGINEER JAIN RETURNED WITH THE BIDS WHICH HAD BEEN CHECKED AND ADVISED that he was <br />ready to make his report. Mr. John C. Steele again requested the Council to recon- <br />sider their previous vote overruling protests suggesting the possibility of changing <br />the type of culvert in an effort to reduce the cost. After further discussion Coun- <br />oilman Spillers offered RESOLUTION No. 131k and,moved adoption AWARDING BID TO S & Q <br />CONSTRUCTION COMPANY at $7,645.50, seconded by Councilman Jones and carried on roll <br />call. Councilmen Britschgi and Herkner voting No, Councilman Royer noted absent. <br />I <br />RESOLUTION No. 1315 AWARDING CONTRACT FOR OAK AVENUE TO DOUGLASS & WOODHOUSE at 015,544.12 <br />was offered and moved for adoption by Councilman Spillers, seconded by Councilwoman <br />Tinny and carried on roll call. Councilman Royer noted absent. <br />RESOLUTION No. 1316 AWARDING CONTRACT TO McCAMMON & WUNDERLICH COMPANY at $48,54o.65 for <br />Junipero Avenue Improvement was offered by Councilman Spillers, who moved adoption, <br />seconded by Councilman Herkner and carried on roll call. Councilman Royer noted <br />absent. <br />CLAIMS No. 8626 to 8676 inclusive in the amount of $156,1166.72 ordered paid on motion of <br />Councilman Jones, seconded by Councilman Spillers and carried. <br />ISETING ADJOURNED AT 11;05 P.
