4is- ) 1 <br />City -Clerk contact the Planning Commission requesting that hereafter the Council be <br />!j <br />provided with -all information available as well as sufficient copies of sketches so <br />that each Councilman will receive a copy with the weekly Agenda. Motion sec m ded by <br />Councilman Granger and carried. <br />Councilman Granger discussed the beautification program on E1 Camino Real suggesting the <br />possibility that the City might contribute to the planting of trees on E1 Camino <br />Real if the program would yiot prove to be too costly. Matter turned over to the <br />Beautification Committee for further thought and recommendation. <br />Councilman Granger commented on the recent Tribune editorial regarding award pins to <br />employees. The discussion included the possibility of presenting pins to former <br />members of the Council with more than ten years of service with the City. Council- <br />man Granger also suggested the possibility of some form of citation for members of <br />the City's Commissions to be presented atthe end of their term of office. Admin- <br />istrative Assistant Wendling and Councilman Granger will investigate this matter <br />further. <br />PARKING LOT NO. 3. City Attorney requested authority to employ an appraiser to work on <br />proposed property acquisition. Councilman Britschgi moved authority be granted, <br />seconded by Councilman Stout and carried. <br />COD94UNICATION was received from the Department of Commerce, Bureau of Census furnishing <br />the official Special Census figures as follows: <br />Both Sexes Male Female <br />Total Population 38,960 192155 19,805 <br />White 38,028 18,693 19035 <br />Nonwhite 932 462 470 <br />There were 12,230 occupied dwelling units as of July 14, 1955. Councilman Jones <br />suggested that the population figures on the highway signs be corrected as soon <br />as possible. <br />Mayor Herkner called attention to the ground breaking ceremonies for the proposed Vet- <br />eran's Memorial Building to be held at 10:00 'a.m., Wednesday, August 24, also to <br />the Committee Meeting to be held Thursday, August 25 at 4:00 p.m, at which time <br />a decision will be reached as to the type of opera chairs to be purchased as well <br />as to discuss parking lots and landscaping. <br />Councilman Royer moved adjournment to August.29, seconded by Councilman Britschgi and <br />carried.
