This was followed by considerable discussion, after -which <br />the motion carried. <br />Councilman Granger wanted to know how long the City was going to allow the present condition of Canyon <br />Road. This was referred to the City Engineer for checking. City Engineer Jain stated that ditch should <br />be resurfaced sometime this week.. <br />PETITION FOR IMPROVEMENTS, BAY ROAD. CITY ENGINEER RECOMMENDATION. A petition has been received from <br />property owners adjacent to Bay Road, requesting full street improvements on Bay Road between Willow Street <br />and Kaynyne Street. This petition represents 59.3% of the property frontage on the portion of Bay Road <br />proposed to be improved. Only the northerly ten feet on Bay Road lies within the incorporated area of <br />Redwood City, with the exception of the 78 feet adjacent to Kaynyne Street. The rest of Bay Road lies <br />in unincorporated territory. <br />I� is the recommendation of the Engineering Department that the City Council approve the -formation of an <br />assessment district for these improvements, and that this petition be presented to the County of San <br />Mateo to process the pinns and speefications, and the formation of the assessment district under a.joint <br />project between the City and the County for the following reasons: <br />1. All except ten feet of the street, with the exception noted above, lies in <br />unincorporated territory. <br />2. The only affected property owners who did not sign the petition are in w <br />unincorporated territory. <br />3. The necessary widening of Bay Road as a Major Street to conform to the rest <br />of Bay Road adjacent to the Redwood Industrial Tracts, and through Friendly Acres, would <br />necessarily be the responsibility, and under the jurisdiction of the County. <br />This matter has been discussed with Mr. Don Nilson, Deputy County Engineer. <br />Councilman Stout moved approval of the City Engineer's report, seconded by Councilman Jones.and carried. q <br />1 <br />REPORT ON BID OPENING, PURCHASE OF CHAIRS AND TABLES, MEMORIAL BUILDING. City Manager Rolison asked to have <br />this postponed for two weeks. Councilman Granger moved to place this on the agenda for two weeks, seconded <br />by Councilman Stout and carried. <br />i <br />REPORT ON BID OPENING, RESURFACE STREETS VICINITX JUSTICE BUILDING. It was the recommendation that the low <br />i <br />I bid of Sandgroth Brothers Construction Company, in the total amount of $9s.471.00 be accepted. Payment <br />for this improvement is to be made from the appropriation for supplies and services in the 1955-56 Street <br />Maintenance Budget. Councilman Spillers moved to accept the City Engineer's report and accept -the bid of <br />Sandgroth Brothers, seconded by Councilman Britschgi. Douglas & Woodhouse's bid was incomplete. Motion <br />carried. <br />PETITI6N KENDINGTON SQUARE RESIDENTS REGARDING CONDITION OF SIDEWALKS. City Engineer Jain reported that <br />many people who signed the petition did not have any cracks in the sidewalk. They found very few major <br />cracks and a few minor cracks. This was.followed by general discussion after which Councilman Royer moved <br />that the City.Engineer check into this and try to repair some of the cracks as best as possible, second- <br />ed by Councilman Britschgi and carried. <br />DIVISION OF HIGHWAYS REGARDING TRAFFIC SIGNAL WOODSIDE ROAD AND HUDSON STREET. In their letter, the <br />Division of Highways stated that they had completed a traffic signal study of this intersection and are <br />i' <br />sorry that they cannot recommend installation of traffic signals at the present time due to insufficient <br />warrants. However, they will keep the intersection under observation and if conditions should chnage <br />they will reconsider a signal installation. Councilman Spillers was of the opinion that this should be <br />sent back to the State telling them that their report was not acceptable. Captain Moudakas reported <br />that the Police Department survey agreed with that of the State. It appears that conditions hive -changed <br />since the last survey.
