Motion carr,Led.
Councilman Granger moved that the Council reaffirm their original stand and the proper department heads
contact the State, seconded, by Councilman Jones. In answer to City Clerk's question, Council indicated
that the City Manager was to be considered as 'proper authorityll.when so referred to in motions. The
Clerk was asked to reinstate the tickler file. Motion carried.
TRAFFIC FACT FINDING COMMITTEE
ELIMINATION OF GREYHOUND BUS STOP ON THE NORTH VEST CORNER OF EL
CAMINO REAL AT HOPKINS AVENUE since a traffic hazard exists at that location due to the buses having
to cross the three south -bound lanes of traffic in a distance of one block in order to make a left turn
at Brewster Avenue which is necessary to serve the Bus Depot. Councilman Jones moved acceptance of the
report, approval to be obtained from the State, seconded by Councilman Royer and carried.
TRAFFIC FACT FINDING COMMITTEE LETTER REGARDING CONFERENCE HELD WITH STATE HIGHWAY COMMISSION REGARDING TRAFFIC
COUNT MADE BY THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AT THE INERSECTION CF WOODSIDE ROAD AND MASSACHUSTTS AVENUE. The
results of the Police Department's count were shown to Mr. Jerry O'Shay of the State Division of Highways
and, due to the difference in counts, he said the State would take another count during the week of
January 9, 1956. The Council will be advised of the result of their count. Councilman Jones moved that
this be brought before the Council at the third meeting in January for a report, seconded by Councilman
Britschgi and carried. Agenda, January 16, 1956.
DIVISION OF HIGHWAYS REGARDING TWO ALTERNATE PLANS TO CONNECT PRESENT BAYSHORE HIGHWAY AND PROPOSED STEINBERG
OVERCROSSING. Letter from Division of Highways reads in part as follows:
°Alernate Plan "B" which connects.to the existing Bayshore Highway oposite Maple Street,
is recommended as it will provide better alignment, cause less interference to the
pumping station unit and force main, and will permit more satifactory development of
the property adjacent to the easterly line of present Steinberger Street.
If Plan °B" is approved by your office, it appears that Maple Street would be a more'
appropriate name than Steinberger Street for the overcrossing as it will connect with
Steinberger Street only near the Channel noth of the sewage treatment plant.
Alternate Plan uBn if adopted will require a revision in freeway agreement, between
the City and the State. This can be taken care of by a supplemental freeway agreement
at a later date to cover all other minor changes.
It Trill be noted that this office has shifted the freeway alignment southerly to
provide for less severance damage to the sewage treatment plant property as requested
during your recent visit to this office, and your letter of November 16, 1955."
City Engineer Jain stated that the State has asked the Council to make a decision which is for an access
street to property in question on the north side of Bayshore Highway, namely the sewage plant, Blocmquist,
Frank's Tannery, etc. This was followed by discussion in regard to signals at Maple, Main and Stein-
berger Streets. Councilman Royer moved realignment and acceptance of Plan B, seconded by Councilman
Stout, City Engineer and Traffic Fact Finding Committee to make their recommendation. Motion carried.
ODDSTAD HOMES REGARDING CHARGE FOR PUMPING AND STORAGE FACILITIES IN FARM HILL SUBDIVISION. The Clerk
read the following letter from A. F. Oddstad, Jr.:
"With regard to the pumping and storage facilities which are to be.furnished by Oddstad
Homes in conjunction with its Farm Hill subdivision, it has been brought to my attention
that other houses in the general area of Farm Hill may have the advantage of those pumping
and storage facilities.
It is therefore requested that an egreeme4t be entered into between the City of Redwood
City and Oddstad Homes, whereby any builder of a house which avails itself of the above
facilities furnished.by Oddstad Homes, be required to pay to Oddstad Homes the sum of
x$100.00 per house."
The following letter from the City Manager was also read by the Clerk:
T'Reference is made to a letter under date of December 5, 19553 addressed to the City Council by
Pair. A. F. Oddstad, Jr., in which he states it has been brought to his attention that houses in
the general area of Farm Hill, other than those located in this subdivision, may have the
advantage of the pumping and storage facilities which he is installing.
Mr. Oddstad therefore suggests that an agreement be entered into between the City of
Redwood City and Oddstad Homes whereby any builder of a house which avails himself of such
facilities, be required to pay Oddstad Homes the sum of $100 per house.
a
