The Mayor called attention to the study meetings scheduled for the week. He asked that the Council be - present at 10:00 A. M. on Wednesday to meet with the Junior Councilmemberse Tuesday night, February 5th, the Council were to meet with the Chamber of Commerce in regard to sales tax. The Council were guests and not.in charge of the meeting. The City Attorney stated that he has the ordinance ready for rezoning the Stickney property that was • requested at the last meeting. Councilman Spillers offered introduction of the ordinance, seconded by Councilman Weymouth and carried. ,City Engineer Jain again referred to the proposed improvement of Jefferson Avenue. He stated that they will have to obtain the necessary right-of-ways. They have a little money set up in gas tax funds but not sufficient funds to purchase the right-of-ways. ,Counciiman.Grangek reported on the matter of contacting the State Highway in regard to the tree planting . program. The State was of the opinion that they should plant trees on all of E1 Camino Real rather f than just pick out one section. He was of the opinion that the Council should notify the State'of f. their intention to prepare a supplementary plan for City Beautification for tree planting*on E1 Camino Real from the North to South City Limits. Councilman Granger moved to accept the committee report, seconded by Councilman Stout and carried. Councilman Granger stated that the Committee will prepare the report to send to the State. Councilman Granger again referred to the.street lighting at the Broadway -E1 Camino intersection and he stated that the State has received a letter from City Engineer Jain. The State is going to take the matter into consideration. Councilman Granger moved that the matter of a stop sign at Grand and Brewster be referred to the Traffic Fadt Finding Committee, seconded by Councilman Spillers and carried. Councilman Stout brought up the matter of stop signs that were installed on Industrial Way and also the speed limit. He stated his thinking in regard to the possibility of taking down the stop signs and allowing industrial Way to be a thoroughfare. The Police Chief stated that recently the Traffic Committee studied this matter and they still feel that the stop signs are necessary until the traffic signal at Whipple Avenue is changed. Councilman Stout stated that it had been called to his attention that there was a large gasoline truck using Hudson and Upton Streets. He brought this matter up because Hudson Street was not one of the streets to be used as a truck route. The Police Department will check into this matter. Councilman Weiss stated that he received a letter regarding the Bay Area Rapid Transite This was in regard to a proposed bill and a meeting is going to be held in San Francisco on February 20th. Councilman Weiss felt that it would be well to have the Council formalize their thinking 'on this bill. Councilman Weiss moved that a study session be set f or February 13th, seconded by Councilman Herkner and carried. Councilman Herkner asked for a report next week from the City Manager in regard to the Sequoia water Reservoir. Claim for damages, Mrs. Reba M. Curry, 811 Arguello Streets was denied and referred to the insurance carrier on motion of Councilman Stout, second3d by Councilman Weiss and carried. Claims 21558 through 21773, totaling $69,513.68, were ordered paid on motion of Councilman Weymouth, seconded by Councilman Weiss and carried. Councilman Spillers spoke about the forum letter of Councilman Weiss appearing in the Tribune with regard to sales tax.
