Councilman Herkner presented service pins to the following.City Employees: 10 years John J. Brophy Louis Del Ben Angelo Flores Charles Guinasso Howard Hall - Dan Licavoli Roy McIntee Paul E. Perrin 15 years John Keller 30 years Henry Mengel Auditor - Assessor Water Department Equipment Operator I Fire Department Meter Repairman License Collector Leading Mang Water City Collector Captain, Fire Dept. Police Officer November, 1946 November, 1946 February, 1947 January, 1947 January, 1947 February, 1947 December, 1946 November, 1946 January, 1942 October, 1926 Charles Guinasso and John Keller were unable to be present for the presentation of their pins and the Fire Chief accepted•the pins on their behalf. Henry Mengel was reported in the hospital and the Police Chief was asked to present the pin to Henry with the best wishes for a speedy recovery. Councilman Granger presented the service placque to Paul Jones, former Councilman for six years. SIDEWALK COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION. The Committee reported that they didn't have anything to report on this week. DISCUSSION ON ANNEXATIONS, ADDITIONAL DATA AND INFORMATION, COUNCILMAN WEISS. Councilman Weiss called attention to a letter printed in the Forum Column of the Tribune on February 2, 1957, and which reads in part as folle PORT PROGRAM OFFERED To the Editor: Much has been said in recent days about the so-called los of federal funds, or assistance, to the ,Bort of Redwood City because of the repeated failure (?) of the people to pass local bond issues for port improvement. jWe have been told of the port's thriving and profitable operation notwithstanding the charges of its opponents and the federal snub. i It occurs to the undersigned that a thriving and profitable organiaation or lenterprise should hardly be seeking or require subsidy either from the federal government or by local public bond issue. Even opponents of the port can not, however, gainsay that it is, or would be, inadvisable to improve the situation and operating facilities, especially by providing an adequate turning basin. Most of usg however, believe that such a program could readily be accomplished without cost to the taxpayers or the necessity of federal subvention. j The facts are that dredging of the required turning basin could be accomplished if only the so ardent proponents of port development could be prevailed upon to demonstrate
