They will recommend .de -annexation of Tofanelli pro - party to San Carlos subsequent to filing of final map (Eaton Avenue Villas); use permit issued to Enomoto to allow addition to one hothouse on Lot 11, Block 47, Reese Subdivision; use permit to H. Foster to allow 14, 6" height (greater than 121) for accessory building at 346 Hillview Avenue. There was some discussion in regard to the height of the building. Planning Commissioner MacDonald stated the permit read 141 611 but tole building was to built on 18t so they changed the permit. No Council action was necessary on these items. Councilman Spillers referred to the Traffic Committee and the City Attorney the matter of looking into "no passing" of any cars in front of schools. Councilman Herkner was of the opinion that they should set for a study meeting the matter of answering items appearing in the paper. Councilman Granger was of the opinion that the City should delegate someone to see about purchasing a portable reviewing stand, metal type, to hold approximately 50 chairs. Councilman Granger moved that this matter be referred to the City Manager for an actual report on the cost of a portable small reviewing stand, seconded by Councilman Herkner and carried. Councilman Granger referred to the matter of vandalism which has been occurring�%at Union Cemetery. He suggested that something be done in the way of possibly offering a $100 reward for the arrest and conviction of anyone found doing van- dalism at the cemetery, especially those who broke the statue representing the Grand Army of the Republic. Councilman Granger moved that this be referred to the City Attorney to see if it would be legal to appropriate money to offer the reward, seconded by Councilman Stout and carried. Councilman Granger stated that.there was a possibility that they can repair the statue and.he moved that the City Manager check into the possibility of having same re- paired, seconded by Councilman Spillers and carried. (Councilman Weiss reported that "the question of the advisability of discontinuing the Child Care Center now being maintained by the Redwood City Elementary School Dbtrict has been and is receiving consideration -by the School Board. The Child Care Center is an outgrowth of the last war when mothers were urged to seek -employ- ment to help the war effort. Over the years since, experience has shown that it is an activity that is just as essential in peace time as it was in war. It serves a purpose in peace that is most humane and of incalculable service in the community. We have in our midst many mothers with small children who because of varying cir- cumstances must seek gainful employment in order to provide and maintain a home for themselves and their cheldren without seeking aid from the County or other welfare agency. Certainly such mothers deserve the assistance afforded them by the opera- tion of the Child Care 'Center. The question is often raised as to the most appropriate agency to administer such a program. Since the State provides its appropriate share of the funds required for these operations and the working parents are required to pay a fee sufficient to cover balance of costs of operation, thus avoiding the use of any moneys
