Councilman Herkner moved <br />c , <br />to grant the permit subject to the conditions mentioned above (MINUTE ORDER #60-194),q seconded by <br />Councilman Rosselli and carried. <br />Application for water connections to two existing homes in the Emerald Lake Area, where wells have failed. <br />Lisle Winter submitted the following reports <br />This department has been requested to grant water service to two homes in the Emerald Lake Area, pre- <br />viously served from wells which have failed. Both applicants were advised to obtain the approval of <br />the San Mateo County Health Department relative to Redwood City granting water service. After investi- <br />gations <br />nvestsgation, Mr. Fred Bailey of the Ban Mateo County Health Department, submitted letters to this.depart- <br />ment recommending that these water services be granted as he considers them hardship�.cases. The homes <br />in question have been occupied for many years; one by Mr. H. Engel, 621 East View Way, and the other <br />by Mr. J. M. Picone, 720 West Glen Way. Both homes are in a poor service area, but in view of the <br />request from the San Mateo County Health Department, it is recommended that these water services be <br />installed by the City of Redwood City, subject to the following conditions: <br />1. That water service be limited to household use only. <br />2. All health requirements relative to cross connections be complied with as directed by <br />the Water Superintandent. <br />3. Subject to normal installation charge. <br />Councilman Fields moved to grant the connections subject to the above mentioned conditions (MINUTE <br />ORDER #60-195), seconded by Councilman Stehle and carried. <br />APPLICATION OF SIGNAL OIL COMPANY FOR VARIANCE FROM THE STRICT APPLICATION OF THE DRIVEUAY ORDINANCE. The <br />Company porposes to construct a service station at the northwest corner of Broadway and Basch Street on <br />a lot 1001 x 10019 They request a variance to allow the edge of the driveway closer to the end of the <br />return than.the 15 foot requirement. <br />i <br />The Engineering Department recommends that this variance be denied, and that the requirements of the <br />i <br />ordinance be complied with, since many other service stations have been built on the same size lots and <br />have constructed adequate driveways in compliance with existing regulations. Representatives from <br />1 <br />j Signal Oil Company were present and stated their case before the Council. One of the facts brought out <br />was that no use permit had been granted for a service station at this location. The Police Chief and <br />the Traffic Bureau objected to the variance because of the traffic hazard at the intersection. Council- <br />, <br />man Herkner moved to deny the variance in accordance with the recommendations of the Engineering Depart- <br />ment (MINUTE ORDER #60-196), seconded by Councilman Stehle and ca rriedp Councilman Fields voting no. <br />COMMUNICATIONS: <br />County of San Mateo Planning Co mmission notified the Council that the San Mateo County Board of Super- <br />visors has set 2:00 pe m. on Tuesday, September 27, 1960 as the time and date of the first hearing on <br />the ddoption of the County wide Master Plan. <br />Joseph L. Lodi, Chief of Communications, reported the resignation of Raymond Woodsy Civilian Defense <br />Radio Officer. Mr. Woods has recommended the name of Robert L. Spencer, a member of the "SCARS" to <br />be assigned the duties of Radio Officer which was concurred in by Chief Lodi, Councilman Herkner moved <br />that a letter be sent to Mr. Woods thanking him for his services, seconded by Councilman Stehle and <br />carried. <br />Catholic Youth Organization expressed their appreciation to the Park Superintendent and staff for their <br />i <br />help and cooperation during their summer Day Camp Program held in Stulsaft Park. <br />i <br />Claims 33873 through 34.083, totaling $242,910.72, were ordered paid on motion of Councilman Fields, seconded <br />I ' <br />by Councilman Herkner and carried. <br />Councilman Herkner moved that the meeting be adjourned, seconded by Councilman Rosselli and carried.
