Redwood City Post Office Annex, Landscape Architectural Services
RBA

pg.3

Hewlett Packard. Buildinøs 30/31. Mountain View. CA. 1997 ($.Æl!l!!l
A major renovation was conducted at the East Middlefield Road site to transition from a
manufacturing facility to a major office complex. New entryway planting, courtyard hardscape
layout, and employee recreation areas including a new sand volleyball court with picnic groves
were designed by RBA. Complete construction documents including, hardscape detailing and
grading, irrigation, planting, and landscape maintenance specifications were provided. As a
memorial to David Packard, a heritage 108" box size native Oak tree was transplanted at the site
entry with RBA coordination.

Contact: Mr. Tad Davis, Project Supervisor, Hewlett Packard, 650/960-5575

Stanford Environmental Safety Center. West Camous. Stanford Universitv. 1996 (lli.§!!l
A new hazard materials storage facility was set into the oak studded foothills on the western
fringe of campus. By selective use of soil mounding and plantings of native shrubs and oaks we
blended the new concrete block facility into the surrounding native landscape. Heritage size
native Valley Oaks were protected during construction and now form part of the finished
landscape. All subsurface drip irrigation was used to benefit the native plant material and
conserve water.

Stanford Project Manager: Anne Ording, PE, Utilities Division, 650-723-6260

Ravchem CorlJoration MasterlJlan. Menlo Park. CA 1991 ($1.1 m)
The main Raychem campus underwent a major upgrading to its facilities in the early 90's. RBA
provided various planning and design efforts to integrate the campus through site
master planning, plant selection, irrigation analysis, and hardscape refurbishment. Parking
studies, pedestrian circulation studies, visual analysis, and utility coordination were part of this
work. One example is the Tech Library addition featuring a tree lined pedestrian mall and
reading courtyard. This is now a thriving employee lounging area and a major aesthetic upgrade
at the heart of the campus.

Contact: Mr. John Kahl, Raychem Project Manager, 415/567-9872

ALZA CorlJoration. M5 Facilitv. Mountain View. CA. 1995 ($300kJ
Preservation of existing heritage size trees was required to allow the city planners grant approval
for construction of this new lIinfill" building on a Shoreline Drive ALZA site. New hardscape entry
court and seating areas were designed for visitor orientation as well as employee enjoyment.
The fire access zone running the full length of the site was paved in lIdriveable" landscape to
allow the area to be included in required landscape while being functional for emergency
vehicles. The project is an outstanding example of retrofitting new uses into an existing complex.

..~.

T
