<br />The Applicant and the Project Political Context <br /> <br />Delivery of the project is sponsored by a three-way partnership: <br />Sequoia Hospital, Catholic Healthcare West and the Sequoia <br />Healthcare District. <br /> <br />Sequoia Hospital. Founded in 1950, Sequoia Hospital is an <br />accredited 421-bed not-far-profit community hospital that, as the <br />first district hospital in California, is the statewide model of a <br />community-based hospital providing high-quality healthcare for <br />people from all economic and social backgrounds in southern San <br />Mateo County. Offering a full range of state-of-the-art medical, <br />surgical and specialty programs, Sequoia Hospital has a reputation <br />of excellence in cardiology, emergency medicine, oncology and <br />orthopedics. <br /> <br />Catholic Healthcare West. In 1996 Sequoia Hospital became <br />a member of the non-profit Catholic Healthcare West (CHW), the <br />state's largest healthcare provider in terms of revenue dedicated to <br />delivering compassionate, high-quality care services with special <br />attention to the poor and underserved. <br /> <br />Sequoia Healthcare District. The Sequoia Healthcare <br />District, the parent organization of Sequoia Hospital that sponsors <br />innovative programs to achieve wellness, health and disease <br />prevention for District residences, will provide oversight and <br />support for the project. In June 2004, the Sequoia Healthcare <br />District Board of Directors announced a $25 million dollar <br />contribution to the project, demonstrating their long-term <br />commitment to providing healthcare to the south San Mateo <br />County community. <br /> <br />Sequoia Hospital, as a non-prqjìl, public entiry alld a pro-active communifp <br />organizer, is recognized as a local and regional communifV asset bJ' the City <br />Council and the Chamber r!f' Commerce.
