ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
a. Janice Greppi, 98 Alameda, at Edgewood Road, in the unincorporated area,
reported the several automobile accidents which have occured within the past
few months on her property which she believes were caused because of problems
related to the traffic signal at that intersection. Mrs. Greppi displayed
photographs of damage done to her fence and to her property by automobiles
"spinning out" and also a letter from her insurance company cancelling her
insurance, because of the potential for a fatality on her property. Mrs.
Greppi also reported she has met with the City's Traffic Engineer and his
assistant and with representatives of the County Public Works Department.
She requested a guard rail be installed to prevent out -of- control vehicles
from damaging her property.
CONSENSUS: Mayor Claire determined it to be the consensus of Council to
request from staff a report by the Traffic Engineer by April 20, 1987, on the
accidents which have taken place at the Alameda /Edgewood Road intersection
and also that staff look into: 1) a left-turn signal on Alameda for traffic
eastbound on Edgewood Road; and 2) whether or not a "No Right Turn" sign
should be placed for those going south on Alameda to prevent turning right at
Edgewood.
MEMO 4/7/87
b. Denise Bradley, 3125 Hoover Street, requested an update on the Fifth Avenue
flooding situation and was told a design is being prepared with the
possibility of a bond issue which might include the pump station and that a
possible interim solution is being studied.
c. Lynn Hanlon, Menlo Park, presented an overhead projection of a newspaper
clipping from 1957 relating to air pollution and referred to proposed
construction of the Combustion Engineering facility. Mayor Claire explained
that the City Council has approved a study on the concept of construction of
a proposed high technology waste -to- energy plant as an alternative to
landfill for waste, noting several public meetings have been held and that no
other decision has yet been made.
d. Gladys Woodhams, 601 Melville, Palo Alto, owner of property at 1018 Main
Street, said she believes her considerable investment in property in Redwood
City will be in danger if the Combustion Engineering plant is constructed.
Mrs. Woodhams objected to the proposed location and suggested air pollution
would occur. (see c. above)
e. Nita Spanqler, 970 Edgewood Road, said that a serious traffic problem exists
at Edgewood and Alameda and extends up Edgewood Road to Highway 280 and to
San Carlos. Mrs. Spangler said that a stop sign is needed on Edgewood at
Melrose, noting much of the problem is created by speeders.
f. Ralph Peterson, 240 Outer Circle, said that he represents the Business and
Government Relations Committee of the Chamber of Commerce and offered
information on the proposed waste -to- energy plant from Combustion Engineering
and both from those who favor and those who oppose the construction of the
facility.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - - - - --
Reg.Mtg.
4/6/87
Page 4 MINUTE BOOK NO. 47
Page No. 91
