Item No. 8 (continued) <br />L17 <br />Local control of traffic systems - E1 Camino Real/ <br />Woodside Road <br />Report: Community Development Director 7/22/87 (Traffic Committee <br />recommendation of 7/9/87 attached) <br />City Manager Smith said that there are questions as to whether the State <br />will compensate the City if local control of traffic systems on E1 Camino <br />Real and Woodside Road is granted and whether it would even be possible <br />to find a traffic signal maintenance person available to hire. <br />M /S: LaBerge /Stangel to consider the Traffic Committee recommendation <br />regarding local control of traffic systems on E1 Camino Real and Woodside <br />Road at the time issues for the 1988 -90 Annual Budget are considered; and <br />to find out if any other cities have taken on such responsibility and <br />what their experience, if any, has been. <br />Carried unanimously by voice vote. MINUTE ORDER NO. 87 -143 <br />c. <br />Closure of Warwick Street Bridge <br />Report: Community Development Director 7/22/87 (Traffic Committee report <br />of 7/9/87 attached) <br />Bernice Rosenstock, 134 Warwick Street, said she has multiple sclerosis and <br />is fearful about crossing Warwick because of the heavy fast - moving <br />traffic and urged closing of the street in one direction as recommended. <br />Loretta Krieqer, 127 Finger, said traffic has greatly increased in recent <br />years on the bridge creating a dangerous situation and urged closing the <br />bridge. <br />Louise Gray, 125 Warwick, said that she must wait up to ten minutes to get <br />out of her driveway because of student traffic from San Carlos. She <br />reported that many pets in the area have been killed by reckless speeding <br />drivers and that she favors closing the street. <br />Jeff Chaknova, 139 Warwick, confirmed statements of others and urged that the <br />bridge be closed. <br />Kathy Wyrick, Warwick Street, said, in response to question, that changed <br />traffic flow recently had not made any difference in the area and that <br />traffic has greatly increased in recent yegrs. She suggested that <br />records of the City's Traffic Engineer will support her statements. Ms. <br />Wyrick urged that the one -way bridge be given a 90 -day trial to determine <br />if it will bring relief to the neighborhood. <br />M /S: LaBerge /Chandler to schedule an informal meeting between members of <br />the City Council and representatives of San Carlos to discuss the <br />situation before action is taken to close the south -bound lane of the <br />Warwick Street Bridge as recommended by the Traffic Committee. <br />The motion carried by majority voice vote. <br />Reg.Mtg. <br />7/27/87 <br />MINUTE ORDER NO. 87 -144 <br />MINUTE BOOK NO. 47 <br />Page No. 210 <br />
