Item No. 8 (continued) L17 Local control of traffic systems - E1 Camino Real/ Woodside Road Report: Community Development Director 7/22/87 (Traffic Committee recommendation of 7/9/87 attached) City Manager Smith said that there are questions as to whether the State will compensate the City if local control of traffic systems on E1 Camino Real and Woodside Road is granted and whether it would even be possible to find a traffic signal maintenance person available to hire. M /S: LaBerge /Stangel to consider the Traffic Committee recommendation regarding local control of traffic systems on E1 Camino Real and Woodside Road at the time issues for the 1988 -90 Annual Budget are considered; and to find out if any other cities have taken on such responsibility and what their experience, if any, has been. Carried unanimously by voice vote. MINUTE ORDER NO. 87 -143 c. Closure of Warwick Street Bridge Report: Community Development Director 7/22/87 (Traffic Committee report of 7/9/87 attached) Bernice Rosenstock, 134 Warwick Street, said she has multiple sclerosis and is fearful about crossing Warwick because of the heavy fast - moving traffic and urged closing of the street in one direction as recommended. Loretta Krieqer, 127 Finger, said traffic has greatly increased in recent years on the bridge creating a dangerous situation and urged closing the bridge. Louise Gray, 125 Warwick, said that she must wait up to ten minutes to get out of her driveway because of student traffic from San Carlos. She reported that many pets in the area have been killed by reckless speeding drivers and that she favors closing the street. Jeff Chaknova, 139 Warwick, confirmed statements of others and urged that the bridge be closed. Kathy Wyrick, Warwick Street, said, in response to question, that changed traffic flow recently had not made any difference in the area and that traffic has greatly increased in recent yegrs. She suggested that records of the City's Traffic Engineer will support her statements. Ms. Wyrick urged that the one -way bridge be given a 90 -day trial to determine if it will bring relief to the neighborhood. M /S: LaBerge /Chandler to schedule an informal meeting between members of the City Council and representatives of San Carlos to discuss the situation before action is taken to close the south -bound lane of the Warwick Street Bridge as recommended by the Traffic Committee.
