Item No. 3 (continued)
1. Redwood City has architectural control on single-family dwellings
with respect to roof overhangs, roofing materials, and siding
materials. (Section 45.3 -a -3 of the Zoning Ordinance).
2. A prefabricated metal, warehouse type sloping roof on a dwelling is
industrial, not residential, in character and incompatible in this
neighborhood where other sloping roofs are shingled.
3. Prefabricated metal clad buildings are specifically prohibited in the
"CP" Commercial Park District (Section 16.10 -b of the Zoning
Ordinance) and, by implication, should be prohibited in more
restrictive districts, including all residential districts.
4. The type of roof proposed would give a dwelling the appearance of a
low- quality trailer or factory -built house as opposed to the higher -
quality design found in mobile homes and factory built homes today.
5. Section 45.3 -a -3 was adopted in 1981 to avoid inappropriate design in
single - family dwellings and duplexes in addition to other kinds of
properties.
Carried on the following roll call vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Britschgi, Bury, Chandler, Greenalch, LaBerge and Mayor
Claire
Noes: Councilman Stangel
MINUTE ORDER NO. 86 -185
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - - - - --
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
1. David Bartoshuk, 245 Roosevelt Avenue, asked to have the new city street tree
on his property moved, because of its potentially detrimental effect on his
new lawn. Mr. Bartoshuk said that there are already two other trees on the
front of his lot and offered to move the tree at his own expense.
There being no objection, Mayor Claire referred the request to staff.
City Manager Smith and City Attorney Schricker said that staff will look into
the matter promptly and contact Mr. Bartoshuk.
MEMO 10/10/86
2. Richard Silver, 234 Madison, said he is representing the San Mateo County
Farm Bureau with regard to Measures A and B on the General Election ballot in
the County on November 4, 1986. Mr. Silver said both measures relate to
coastal protection, and the Farm Bureau opposes Measure A, placed on the
ballot by initiative, and supports Measure B, placed there by the Board of
Supervisors. He asked Council to take the same positions as the Farm
Bureau.
MINUTE BOOK NO. 46
Page NO. 410
Reg.Mtg.
10/6/86
Page 3
