BOARD, COMMISSION AND COMMITTEE REPORTS <br />2. Housing and Human Concerns Committee recommendation re <br />family living center (301 -10) <br />Report: Housing and Human Concerns Committee 11/6/86 <br />Joe Mandolfo, Chairman of the Housing and Human Concerns Committee (HHCC) <br />presented the Committee report. <br />James Hartnett, 1193 Hudson, Vice Chairman of the HHCC, said that $452,000 of <br />the City's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds will go toward <br />acquisition and $70,000 for the first year operation, noting the purchase <br />price is less than previously expected and that the $70,000 is a one -time <br />cost. <br />In response to question, Housing Coordinator Church said that the nearby <br />furnace company keeps trucks at the site, and responds to calls for work <br />elsewhere, not on the site. <br />Mr. Hartnett noted that part of the arrangement is that the City, through the <br />HHCC, will recommend the structure for a neighborhood committee to meet with <br />the operator of the project. <br />The persons listed below spoke in favor of the establishment of a family <br />living center at 110 Locust Street, noting the need in the community to <br />provide temporary shelter, counseling and employment opportunities to <br />families and seniors who are homeless; that the tenants will be screened to <br />eliminate drug users; the desirability of the site for small children; the <br />proximity of the site to grocery shopping, schools and public transportation; <br />the experience and expertise of the shelter management; the need for a formal <br />neighborhood advisory board to work together; good experience with similar <br />projects nearby; the need for investment in human resources; whether fears <br />about tenants are justified; and the intent to assist Redwood City <br />residents. <br />Linda Beroldo, 2010 Palm <br />Francis Back, St. Vincent de Paul Regional Conference <br />Jill La Plante, present tenant of 110 Locust <br />Peggy Pribyl, 563 Santa Clara <br />Phyllis Robins, 510 Pine, Menlo Park, neighbor of a family center there <br />Joe Robles, 410 Grand, St. Vincent de Paul <br />Steven Rice, 334 Nimitz, President, Clergy Association <br />Maben Clark, 1058 Ringwood, Menlo Park, League of Women Voters and San <br />Mateo County Housing Task force <br />William Clark, 1058 Ringwood, Menlo Park, member of neighborhood group <br />working with nearby center <br />Beverly Lawrence, MidPeninsula Citizens for Fair housing, 457 Kingsley, <br />Palo Alto <br />Cliff Boxley, North Fairoaks, PROBE Community Center <br />Elaine Ruff, 1337 Willow, Menlo Park, successful participant in the Menlo <br />Park family living center <br />Reg.
