<br />16.20 <br /> <br />accrue vacation at a rate (6.154 hours per pay period) that yields 160 hours of vacation per <br />year. The seventeenth through the nineteenth year of service, workers will accrue vacation at a <br />rate (6.923 hours per pay period) that yields 180 hours of vacation per year. The twentieth and <br />subsequent years of service, workers shall accrue vacation at a rate (7.692 hours per pay <br />period) that yields 200 hours of vacation per year. <br /> <br />Battalion Chiefs assigned to twenty-four (24) hour duty shifts shall be entitled to annual vacation <br />leave as follows: <br /> <br />Upon date of hire through the fourth year of service, workers shall accrue vacation at a rate <br />(4.615 hours per pay period) that yields 120 hours of vacation per year. The fifth through the <br />ninth year of service, workers will accrue vacation at a rate (7.385 hours per pay period) that <br />yields 192 hours of vacation per year. The tenth through the sixteenth year of service, workers <br />will accrue vacation at a rate (8.615 hours per pay period) that yields 224 hours of vacation per <br />year. The seventeenth through the nineteenth year of service, workers will accrue vacation at a <br />rate (9.692 hours per pay period) that yields 252 hours of vacation per year. The twentieth and <br />subsequent years of service, workers shall accrue vacation at a rate (10.769 hours per pay <br />period) that yields 280 hours of vacation per year. <br /> <br />16.19.4 At the discretion of the department head, a probationary employee who has completed at least <br />six (6) months of his/her probationary period may take accrued vacation leave subject to the <br />provisions of 16.19.2 above. <br /> <br />16.19.5 <br /> <br />16.19.6 <br /> <br />Vacation leave shall not be accumulated in excess of two (2) years accrued vacation leave <br />computed to the 31st of December, except upon written authorization of the Human Resources <br />Director. <br /> <br />Without department head approval vacation leave shall not be granted during the original <br />probationary period; provided, however, that in the event such original probationary period <br />exceeds one (1) year, vacation leave shall not be granted during the initial one (1) year of <br />employment. <br /> <br />Illness During Vacation <br /> <br />16.20.1 <br /> <br />An employee who commences a scheduled vacation period and subsequently becomes ill <br />before his or her vacation period has been completed shall be placed on illness leave under the <br />following conditions: <br /> <br />16.20.1.1 <br /> <br />The employee otherwise qualifies for illness leave as provided by this <br />Agreement; and, <br /> <br />16.20.1.2 <br /> <br />The employee, if no longer ill, returns to duty immediately following the vacation <br />period; and, vacation period; and, <br /> <br />16.20.1.3 <br /> <br />The employee's illness is verified by a statement from an accredited medical <br />doctor for each such day of illness leave requested. <br /> <br />17 <br />
