<br />16.20.2 When the employee's vacation leave is converted to illness leave, the appropriate vacation credit <br />shall be restored to the employee's earned vacation balance, and a reasonable opportunity to <br />utilize this vacation credit shall be provided within the city's existing practices in order to avoid loss <br />of vacation credit. <br /> <br />16.21 <br /> <br />Recognized Holidays <br /> <br />16.21.1 <br /> <br />The following are the recognized holidays: <br /> <br />NewYea~s Day <br />Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (observed on the third Monday in January) <br />Washington's Birthday (observed on the third Monday in February) <br />Memorial Day (observed on the last Monday in May) <br />Independence Day <br />Labor Day (observed on the first Monday in September) <br />Veterans Day (observed November 11) <br />Thanksgiving Day <br />The Day After Thanksgiving <br />Christmas Eve <br />Christmas Day <br />NewYea~s Eve <br /> <br />16.21.2 <br /> <br />Two administrative holidays and such other days as may be proclaimed local holidays. <br />Administrative Holidays may only be taken in eight (8) hour increments. At the option of the <br />employee, an employee may receive pay at the employee's straight-time rate of pay in lieu of <br />one or both of the administrative holidays at eight (8) hours per administrative holiday. In the <br />event that one or both of the administrative holidays are not used by the last pay period paid in <br />the year (based on the preceding 26 pay periods), payment will be made no later than the first <br />pay period in February. <br /> <br />16.22 Weekend Holidays <br /> <br />When any of the above holidays fall on Sunday, the following Monday shall be considered the holiday. <br />When any of the above holidays fall on Saturday, the proceeding Friday shall be considered the holiday. <br /> <br />16.23 Work on a Holiday <br /> <br />A management unit member who is required to work on any of the holidays listed in Section 16.21.1 above <br />shall receive instead a paid day oft on the workday either preceding or following the holiday as determined <br />by the department head. <br /> <br />16.24 Holiday During Vacation <br /> <br />In the event any of the holidays specified in Section 16.21.1 above occurs while an employee is on vacation <br />or sick leave, the holiday shall not be charged as vacation or sick leave. <br /> <br />18 <br />
