Item No. 13 (continued)
M /S: Chandler /Bury that the $90,000 be deposited back into the Redevelopment
Agency Housing Fund.
Carried unanimously by voice vote. MINUTE ORDER NO. 85 -183
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - - - - --
14. Latch Key Program (1004)
Report of Mayor Britschgi 11/26/85
Mayor Britschgi advised that he is a member of the Policy Board for this
program, initiated by the Redwood City Elementary School District because of
concern for school children between the ages of five and 14, who return from
school to empty homes and take care of themselves until parents return from
work. Interest in the program has broadened so that many parts of the
community other than the schools and the City are now involved. They plan to
develop a program to help those children in this age group who need some type
of activity, by establishing an afternoon program for them, and need funds to
to help pay a salary for a program coordinator.
M /S: Claire /Stangel to appropriate $2,000 to the Redwood City Consortium for
School -Age Child Care.
Carried unanimously by voice vote. MINUTE ORDER NO. 85 -184
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - - - - --
15. Recommendation of Metropolitan Transportation
Commission re Joint Powers Authority (1202 -01)
Report of City Manager 11/26/85
Councilman Stangel, member of the Board of Directors, SamTrans, stated that
the Board will meet later this week to discuss the two key recommendations of
the Peninsula Transit Alternatives Committee, and vote as to whether or not
to support the establishment of a Joint Powers Authority, and indicated that
at least some of the members oppose the establishment of another layer of
transit experts or government. With regard to the other issue, acquisition
of the Southern Pacific right -of -way, he indicated that there are valid
reasons to support that recommendation, if funds are available.
Discussion followed regarding the advisability of waiting until after the
SamTrans Board meeting; concern with respect to establishment of another
superagency; and the fact that San Mateo County has transportation problems
different from those in other counties.
Mayor Britschgi determined it to be the consensus to take no action at this
stage.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - - - - --
Reg.Mtg.
12/2/85
Page 7
MINUTE BOOK NO. 46
Page No. 114
