FIRE SAFETY (Page 12) <br />Director of Fire Services O'Brien commented on requirements for a new fire engine <br />and explained the advantages of reverting to the aerial ladder, rather than <br />purchasing a snorkle; advised in response to concerns that the Emerald Lake <br />residents are to a large extent within the Woodside Fire Protection District. <br />City Manager Smith advised in reply to question by Council that an offer has been <br />made for the site adjacent to Bradford Parking Lot for the proposed new fire <br />station. <br />(Cou nc i 1 rec essed for lu nch from 12: 30 to 1:00 p. m. ) <br />COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT (Page 19) <br />Planning Director Schroeter commented and replied to questions by Council <br />regarding long range planning, and requirements for personnel, including a Planner <br />for community aesthetics and an additional clerk in Housing; described some of <br />the proposals for improving service to the public; and advised that with respect <br />to rehabilitation loans, the availability of the program is advertised and <br />otherwise publicized. <br />BUILDING REGULATION (Page 23) <br />Deputy Building Official La Torra reviewed some of the code enforcement duties <br />involving this department, the various permits that must be processed; checking <br />for compliance with Federal, State and local regulations, and for compliance with <br />regard to Pacific Gas and Electric rebate regulations; that handicap regulations <br />have been updated, and that they propose to adopt the current Building Code this <br />year. <br />ENGINEERING SERVICES (Page 25) <br />Director of Public Works Addiego commented on the need for an Assistant Civil <br />Engineer to assist in traffic engineering, describing the heavy work load of the <br />Traffic Engineer, including traffic control, traffic signals, citizen complaints, <br />accident statistics, filing of applications for grant funds, utility company <br />permits, among others. City Manager Smith affirmed that a great deal of extra <br />time is expended by the Engineering Department. <br />COMMUNITY PROMOTION (Page 27) <br />City Manager Smith noted that the request of Peninsula Celebration Association was <br />for $5,000, but that $2,000 is being recommended. <br />Council referred to an earlier request by PCA to relax the Fire Department <br />regulations regarding fireproofing of floats, as well as a more recent <br />communication informing prospective parade entrants that they will assist by <br />purchasing fire - resistant materials for floats. <br />Mayor Britschgi relinquished the chair to Vice Mayor Mosher for the purpose of <br />making a motion. <br />Budget Study Session <br />6/22/85 <br />Page 5 <br />MINUTE BOOK N0. 45 <br />Page NO. 480 <br />
