Community Promotion (continued)
M/ S: Brit schg i /Chandler to increase the allocation to Peninsula Celebration
Association with the stipulation that the additional $3,000 go for increasing
prize money for the parade and to assist with fireproofing costs.
Pete Hughes, Peninsula Celebration Association, advised that they could designate
any additional funds as the City wishes, but that it would be for next year. Mr.
Hughes was asked by Council whether the extra $3,000 are needed, and he indicated
that they do have adequate income, that the funds are not needed as much by them
as by some other organizations, and that the $2,000 received from the City is
approximately 2% of their budget.
Motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
Nita Spanqler, 970 Edgewood Road, commented regarding the Chamber of Commerce,
mentioning some of the activities of the Chamber that raise funds, but do not
benefit our City, and believed that there should be an evaluation of how they
spend their money.
(Council recessed from 2:18 to 2:25 p.m.)
TRANSPORTATION (Page 29)
Director of Public Works Addiego referred to the Street System Maintenance program
and the $4 million worth of overlay projects required in the City, and the need to
repair streets before there is pavement failure requiring more costly restoration.
Discussion followed regarding the unsightly area on Veterans Boulevard in the
vicinity of Casa de Redwood, and Mr. Addiego indicated that notice can be served
on the other property owners with respect to completion of the remainder of the
sidewalk. Councilman Bury advised that he is on the Board of Directors for Casa
de Redwood, and will follow up with them.
TRAFFIC CONTROL MAINTENANCE (Page 31)
Public Works Director Addiego referred to the Public Works Supervisor position
requested, deletion of the Maintenance Electrician position, and the fact that the
new position would be responsible for supervision of traffic control maintenance,
relieving the Traffic Engineer of this activity.
PARKING (Page 32 )
Parkinq Bond Debt Service
Director of Finance Tasseff advised that the 1959 Parking District Bonds will be
paid off in July.
TRANSPORTATION CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS (Page 34)
With regard to the listed proposed project, Council suggested additional streets
needing attention as Elwood from Whipple to Hopkins, and also Perry Street, and
Director of Public Works Addiego stated that he would look at those areas. With
regard to Perry Street, City Manager Smith pointed out that it is in the
Redevelopment District and so it was purposely not included.
Budget Study Session
6/22/85
Page 6
MINUTE BOOK NO. 45
Page No. 481
