Mr. Irizarry and Director of Parks and Recreation Griffiths asked that Council <br />turn to Page 52, the Senior Services program in order to consider the request of <br />the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee that a Recreation Center Supervisor be <br />employed with half of the cost to be borne by the Senior group. <br />Tom Jordan, Senior Citizens Advisory Committee, said that the Veterans Center <br />Committee is willing to provide half the cost, or about $13,000 to employ a needed <br />Recreation Center Supervisor, noting that the Veterans Memorial Senior Center <br />Committee has been very active and has contributed more than $26,000 toward <br />furnishing the Center and employing cooks. <br />M /S: Rhodes /Stangel that the City fund one -half of the cost of an additional <br />Senior Recreation Supervisor position to be employeed at the Veterans Memorial <br />Senior Center and to accept the Committee offer to fund the other half (Total cost <br />- $26,598; one -half $13,299). <br />Discussion followed and Council and staff replied to questions regarding the <br />number of employees and other costs being borne by the City at the Veterans <br />Center. <br />Vince Truscelli, Vice Chairman, Veterans Memorial Senior Center Committee, urged <br />approval of the request for a new position with costs to be shared by the City and <br />the Committee. <br />Treasurer, Center Committee, urged Council to approve the position request and <br />asked that it be for a one -year trial period so that the seniors can determine if <br />the benefit is equivalent to the expense of half the position. <br />6 /21/84) <br />In response to questions, Mr. Irizarry, said that recruitment would take about <br />seven to eight weeks. <br />Carried unanimously by voice vote. <br />MINUTE ORDER NO. 84 -97 <br />In response to questions about other positions, Mr. Irizarry stated that fulltime <br />equivalents are used as parttime persons are often employed. <br />Councilman Rhodes stated for the record that he would like to suggest that the <br />City consider the sale of any downtown property it owns which might have <br />commercial value and use the proceeds to construct a new fire station and civic <br />center. Councilman Rhodes added that with regard to the Library a long term lease <br />back arrangement might be possible, or some arrangement where a developer <br />constructs a building and in return for certain advantages, a couple of floors <br />could be used by the City. <br />PUBLIC SAFETY (pp 7 -18) <br />Police Chief Guardino presented his programs and descibed the newly formed San <br />Mateo County Narcotics Task Force which will be operated by all of the cities in <br />the County and the Sheriff's office.
