Item No. 1 (continued)
Don Reed, 40480 Marica, Fremont, Marine World diver, suggested the Council
use its zoning and permit powers to delay the plans of Campeau Corporation.
Councilman Chandler challenged Mr. Reed for the record with regard to certain
statements Mr. Reed was reported to have made on the radio which he denied
having made.
Mike Demetrios, President, Marine World, in response to questions, said that
the relocation has been going on for some three years and he hopes to obtain
financing to construct a new park in Mountain View by September 15. Mr.
Demetrios reported that he has set that date as a deadline as to whether or
not it will be possible to construct a new park, since decisions must be made
with regard to the animals and future plans of employees.
M /S: Mosher / Stangel that the City Council attempt to negotiate with the
Campeau Corporation to allow Marine World to remain open on its present site
for one more year.
In response to question, City Attorney Schricker said that the motion would
not cause the Council to be compromised with regard to applications Campeau
is expected to file for permits, since the motion is a policy statement
regarding an item of public interest to the community. Mr. Schricker noted
that a planned development permit can be issued by the Planning Commission in
any case, so that nothing in the motion suggests prejudging of the matter.
The motion carried on the following roll call vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Bury, Claire, Mosher, Rhodes, Stangel and Mayor Britschgi
Noes: Councilman Chandler
MINUTE ORDER NO. 84 -141
(Council recessed from 9:10 to 9:20 P.M.)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - - - - --
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS
30. Request of the Mobilhome Owners of Redwood City for
stablishment of rent stabilization program (301 -07)
M /S: Chandler /Mosher that the subject item be considered out of order at
this time.
Carried unanimously by voice vote.
Carol Bangert, 3015 East Bayshore, #131, President of Harbor Village
Mobilhome Owners Association, asked that consideration be given to enactment
of a rent stabilization ordinance for mobilehome parks similar to that
adopted by the City of Carson in Southern California. Ms. Bangert described
the content of the Carson ordinance.
Charles Hicks, 2053 East Bayshore, Redwood Mobile Estates, distributed a rent
history survey for Redwood City parks and reviewed it. Mr. Hicks said he
would provide a written copy of his remarks for the file.
Reg.Mtg.
8/27/84
Page 3
MINUTE BOOK NO. 45
Page No. 119
