Item No. 5 (continued)
Richard E. Gardella, 541 Jefferson Avenue, representing Mr. Castagnola,
summarized the matter and stated that his client does not believe a use
permit is required, but will agree to use permit conditions relating to
relocation or removal of the sign and to landscaping five feet in width on
the E1 Camino Real frontage. His client objects to the architectural
permit requirements involving elimination of the driveways and installa-
tion of a new driveway fronting James Street, because of the cost. Mr.
Gardella acknowledged that the plat for the property submitted by his
client Mr. Castagnola shows the driveways as approved by Mr. Schroeter and
is the plat which he is attempting to withdraw by his appeal of the
architectural permit. Mr. Gardella presented a slide projection of the
plat.
Discussion followed and Mr. Schroeter, Mr. Schricker, Mr. Gardella and
Director of Public Works Addiego replied to questions and commented
regarding the requirements of the Zoning Ordinance; the cost to meet the
requirements of the architectural permit; the limited nature of Mr.
Castagnola's lease from Texaco Company; the driveways in relation to
traffic safety; and the offer of the appellant to block off driveways with
planter boxes.
Mayor Stangel invited anyone else present who wished to speak to do so.
No one wished to speak.
M /S: Biagi /Mosher to close the public hearing.
Carried unanimously and public hearing closed at 10:05 p.m.
M /S: Britschgi /Claire to deny the appeal of the decision of Zoning
Administrator relating to certain conditions for Use Permit for auto
repair garage, 1001 E1 Camino Real - John P.
