Report on Fire Station No. 1 Seismic Report /Civic Center <br />Improvements (702 -02) <br />Report of City Manager 11/17/83 transmitting Seismic Investigation Report <br />on Fire Station 1 prepared by Design & Engineering Systems, Inc. <br />City Manager Smith presented the subject report, stating that it has been <br />determined that Fie Station 1 is not "earthquake proof ". <br />Discussion followed concerning the need to relocate the employees and <br />equipment in the Fire Station to temporary facilities as soon as possible <br />and to plan for a future permanent station. <br />Fire Chief O'Brien and Mr. Smith replied to questions and commented <br />concerning details relating to temporary arrangements. Mr. O'Brien said <br />he expects to move within 45 to 60 days and to be in the temporary <br />quarters about two to two and one -half years. <br />M /S: Rhodes /Biagi to proceed with all possible speed to move the firemen <br />and equipment to safe, temporary quarters. <br />Carried unanimously by voice vote. MINUTE ORDER NO. 83 -170 <br />M /S: Bury /Claire to retain an architect for the fire headquarters station <br />and to investigate sites for a new fire headquarters station. <br />Discussion continued and Mr. Smith commented and replied to questions <br />regarding a possible relationship between the location of new fire <br />headquarters and the redevelopment agency. <br />The motion carried by majority voice vote which Mayor Stangel determined <br />to be 6 -1. MINUTE ORDER NO. 83 -171 <br />M /S: Claire /Biagi that staff be directed to prepare a financial report <br />detailing a financing program consisting of a $6- 7,000,000 certificate of <br />participation through the redevelopment agency, using tax increment and <br />further backed by Utility Users Tax revenue. <br />Carried unanimously by voice vote. MINUTE ORDER NO. 83 -172 <br />CONSENSUS: Mayor Stangel determined it to be the consensus of Council to <br />delay action at this time with regard to the recommendation of the City <br />Manager regarding retaining a supervising architect for the comprehensive <br />reorganization of the Main Library and City Hall and review the adequacy <br />---- - - - - of - the Police facility.
