<br />AGENDA (continued) <br /> <br />ACTION TAKEN (continued) <br /> <br />PUBLIC HEARINGS (continued) <br /> <br />PUBLIC HEARINGS (continued) <br /> <br />Item No.3 (continued) <br /> <br />Ed Webster, representing the Redwood City <br />Masonic Lodge, owner of the Alhambra Theatre, <br />835 Main Street, said it is an unreinforced <br />masonry building and the Lodge is attempting <br />to decide what to do with the property. Mr. <br />Webster requested a 60-day continuance before <br />Council decision is made in order for the <br />Lodge to consider their position on the <br />matter. <br /> <br />Mr. Frank, representing members of his family <br />who own the Sequoia Hotel, stated they do not <br />believe the hotel has any historical <br />significance, and asked that it not be <br />designated an historic landmark. Mr. Frank <br />reported he has obtained an engineering <br />report stating it would be necessary to tear <br />down the building to make use of the <br />property. <br /> <br />Mayor Biagi invited anyone else present who <br />wished to speak to do so. No one wished to <br />speak. <br /> <br />MIS: Chandler/Leipzig to close the public <br />hearing. <br /> <br />'\ <br /> <br />MOTION WITHDRAWN: Upon request of Mrs. <br />Gladys Woodhams to speak, Councilman Chandler <br />withdrew his motion. <br /> <br />Mrs. Gladys Woodhams, owner of Offerman <br />House, 1018 Main Street, stated she believes <br />the Sequoia Hotel has historic significance <br />and suggested it could be restored. <br /> <br />MIS: Chandler/Leipzig to close the public <br />hearing. Carried unanimously and public <br />hearing closed at 8:30 p.m. <br /> <br />Title read. <br /> <br />MIS: <br /> <br />Leipzig/Stangel <br /> <br />not to designate the Alhambra Theatre, 835 <br />Main Street, and the Sequoia Hotel, 2001 <br />Broadway, as Historic Landmarks; and <br /> <br />RESOLUTION DESIGNATING CERTAIN BUILDINGS IN <br />THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY AS HISTORIC <br />LANDMARKS <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 9051 <br />adopted unanimously by roll call vote. <br />MINUTE ORDER NO. 82-16 <br /> <br />MIS: Bury/Britschgi to continue <br />consideration of the designation of the <br />Alhambra Theatre, 835 Main Street, as an <br />historic landmark for 60 days. <br /> <br />Motion failed by majority voice vote, Mayor <br />Biagi determing the vote to be four "Noes" <br />and two "Ayes". <br /> <br />CONSENSUS: Mayor Biagi determined it to be <br />the consensus of Council that the Planning <br />Commission be asked to research with regard <br />to historical designation of property whether <br />approval or disapproval of the involved <br />property owner must be requested when <br />designation is proposed. <br />(Memo 2/9/82) <br /> <br />.~ <br /> <br />------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ <br /> <br />Reg.Mtg. <br />2/8/82 <br />Page 3 <br /> <br />t}6? <br /> <br />;/ <br />
