Caltrans of the sampling program before drilling. Encroachment penn its will be required
from Caltrans. Notification to the City Project Manager will be at least one week prior to
work, and notification to Caltrans will be as specified in the respective encroachment
pennit The geotechnical sub consultant will arrange for traffic control, as required, for
field operations.

Materials/Geotechnical Design Report. Prepare Material/Geotechnical Design Reports in
accordance with Caltrans Memo GDR dated October 2, 1995. A Draft Report with log of
test borings will be submitted as a draft to Caltrans, comments incorporated, and 10 copies
issued of the final Materials/Geotechnical Design Report. Following is the detailed work
plan for the Geotechnical/Geotechnical Design Report:

0 PennitslResearch. Obtain the necessary encroachment pennits from Caltrans and the
County for field exploration work.

0 Review of readily available geologic and soil literature in the vicinity of the site,
including any boring infonnation. Also review previous Materials Reports on the
Route 580 Corridor.

0 Field Exploration. 22 shallow borings are proposed for the Materials Report for
roadway and retaining wall construction. The boring locations will depend on
available access, and any boring data from previous studies.

0 Obtain relatively undisturbed and bulk samples of substrata from test borings.

0 Laboratory Testing. Perfonn laboratory testing on representative samples including
moisture density, gradation analysis, consolidation, corrosion tests, and R-value.

0 Soil AnalysisÆvaluation. Perfonn engineering analysis and develop design
recommendations, including analysis for stability of slopes, pavement
recommendations, and corrosion study.

0 Draft Report. Prepare a draft Geotechnical Design Report following the guidelines in
Caltrans Memo Dated October 2, 1995, with log of test borings, in accordance with
California Test Method 130.

0 Final Report. Prepare the Final Report to address review comments.

Bridge Foundation Report. A Bridge Foundation Report will be prepared in accordance
with Caltrans DOS Foundation Report Requirements, and Memo to Designers.

This report will recommend structure foundation types and footing elevations. It will also
specify pile tip elevations for pile foundation, and will provide infonnation on groundwater
conditions, allowable bearing capacities, seismic data, and other infonnation needed to
evaluate the chosen foundation. This report will also address anticipated fill settlement
and recommended durations for settlement periods, to prevent excessive differential
settlement between the structure and adjacent roadway approaches.

Subsurface investigations shall confonn to the requirements in Section 4.3.5 of the Bridge
Design Specifications, and pile foundations shall provide for the utilization of Standard
piles as a minimum. A Log of Test Borings will be prepared and included as part of the

Exhibit "A"
Route ]OJ/Ralston-Marine Parkway Interchange Project
Scope of Services

Page 6

.
