For the community, this provides restoration of an
historic building that very few community members have seen for quite a long
time. The gathering place provided and economic vitality will enhance the
community as well.
Bruce Liedstrand stated that this is a cooperative agreement that is a step toward
beginning the vision of the courthouse block as a unique community asset and
gathering place that must be preserved. The County museum is an integral part
of the courthouse block; and the City and County value and support the long term
success of the County museum. The substance of the agreement is that in
exchange for the City's investment, the County is giving the City an easement for
a term of years. The initial term is 55 years with four 10 -year extensions that lead
to a total of 95 years, automatically renewed unless the governing body of either
entity determines to cancel. The cancellation or termination requires a 30-day
notice to the other party, a public hearing and public action, all to occur one year
prior to the next extension.
Council asked questions and made comments
Recommendation:
M/S Foust/Howard to:
1.
