<br />FXS:dft <br /> <br />r../08/93 (018/11) <br />. l4/93R <br /> <br />period <br /> <br />average <br /> <br />temperatures <br /> <br />range <br /> <br />from <br /> <br />70 <br /> <br />to <br /> <br />90 <br /> <br />The dry <br />degrees <br /> <br />one can anticipate no measurable precipitation at all. <br /> <br />Fahrenheit. <br /> <br />These temperatures <br /> <br />are many times accompanied by <br /> <br />light to gusty prevailing westerly to northwesterly winds. <br /> <br />These <br /> <br />dry winds, mixed with the natural vegetation which is predominant <br />throughout the area, creates a hazardous fuel condition which has <br /> <br />caused extensive grass and brushland fires. <br /> <br />With more and more <br /> <br />development encroaching into these wooded grass covered areas, <br /> <br />wind-driven fires could cause destruction of property and cause <br /> <br />loss of life on a massive scale, <br /> <br />as has occurred on numerous <br /> <br />occasions in other areas of the state. <br /> <br />Recorded weather patterns <br /> <br />indicate that the average annual rainfall predictions cannot be <br /> <br />relied <br /> <br />upon <br /> <br />for <br /> <br />determining <br /> <br />availability <br /> <br />of <br /> <br />water <br /> <br />for <br /> <br />fire <br /> <br />fighting purposes. <br /> <br />Water shortages and water rationing maybe <br /> <br />anticipated <br /> <br />to <br /> <br />occur <br /> <br />periodically <br /> <br />in <br /> <br />response <br /> <br />to <br /> <br />drought <br /> <br />conditions, thus impeding adequate fire suppression operations. <br /> <br />GEOLOGICAL. <br /> <br />The <br /> <br />City <br /> <br />of <br /> <br />Redwood <br /> <br />City <br /> <br />lies <br /> <br />on <br /> <br />the <br /> <br />San <br /> <br />Francisco Bay Peninsula toward the southern portion of the County <br /> <br />of San Mateo. <br /> <br />The City is bordered by the City of San Carlos to <br /> <br />the north, the City of Menlo Park to the south, the City of the <br />Town of Woodside and the County of San Mateo to the west, and by <br /> <br />the <br /> <br />San Francisco Bay, <br /> <br />to the east. <br /> <br />The City <br /> <br />includes both <br /> <br />flatlands <br /> <br />(a significant portion of which is underlain by Bay <br /> <br />Mud) and hilly areas. <br /> <br />The City includes the port area of the <br /> <br />City of Redwood City and a newly developing area referred to as <br /> <br />"Redwood Shores". <br /> <br />Emergency vehicle access to these areas is <br /> <br />highly restricted in that they are separated from the emergency <br /> <br />2 <br /> <br />- .. ....".. ..,-"",,",",- ""----. _.."~.- -,.
